Blessings to you this Easter Sunday. The Bible teaches many things, and all are important. But the Epistle today from 1 orinthians 15 speaks about what is of first importance: that hrist died for our sins, that He was buried, and that He has been raised, in accordance with the Scriptures. As we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, we focus on those things of first importance. WELOME and ANNOUNEMENTS If there are prayer concerns for you, your family, your friends, or your neighbors, please put them on the blue information card. Our Board of Elders are prayerful with our pastor about these joys and struggles of our earthly journey. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. 2 OENING SENTENES Alleluia! hrist is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! He died for our sins, according to the Scriptures. He was buried in the tomb, according to the definite plan of God. He rose from the dead and appeared to many. Alleluia! hrist is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! ONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION If hrist had not been raised from the dead, we would still be dead in our trespasses and sins. Let us consider our sinfulness and God s great mercy in hrist. Heavenly Father, we have sinned against You in our thoughts, words, and actions. We confess our shameful thoughts about our leaders, enemies, and strangers. We confess our inappropriate words spoken to our families, friends, and colleagues. We confess our inappropriate actions toward our neighbors. For the sake of the risen hrist, forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we follow in His footsteps both now and when He returns in glory. Amen. If hrist had not been raised from the dead, we would still be dead in our trespasses and sins, but hrist rose from the grave, and death no longer has dominion over Him! God did this in accordance with the Scriptures to forgive our sins. As a called and ordained servant of the risen hrist and by His authority, I forgive your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. KYRIE In peace let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. Almighty God the Father, through Your only-begotten Son, Jesus hrist, You have overcome death and opened the gate of everlasting life to us. Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of our Lord s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by 3

Rajek HYMN I Know that My Redeemer Lives (LSB 461, sts. 1-4) (lease stand) REED 1 orinthians 15:17; Second Article of the Apostles reed aul writes, If hrist has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Because of this, Easter morning delivers the joyous truth that hrist has been raised, and God has made us His people through our Baptism into hrist. Living together in trust and hope, 4

5 we confess our faith in His work accomplished for us. I believe in Jesus hrist, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under ontius ilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. What does this mean? I believe that Jesus hrist, true God, begotten of the Father from all eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true. (lease be seated) OFFERING We gather our tithes, gifts of love, and our Building Together in Faith gifts. (lease stand) RAYERS OF THE HURH Let us pray for the whole hurch of God in hrist Jesus and for all people according to their needs. Father in heaven, You raised Your Son, Jesus hrist, from the dead as the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep. Fill all Your baptized people with the joy of His victory and send us forth as witnesses to His resurrection. For hrist is risen, He is risen indeed. Alleluia! Lover of mankind, prosper Your Gospel wherever it is preached throughout the world, that it may give and sustain faith in all who hear it, delivering them from the power of darkness and bringing them into the joyful Kingdom of Your risen Son. For hrist is risen, He is risen indeed. Alleluia! Lord of glory, Your Son established Your hurch to be a refuge of peace in a troubled world. God of the living, receive our thanks this day for all Your servants who have departed this life in Your faith and fellowship and who now rest from their labors. Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Your Son, Jesus hrist, our Lord. Amen. LORD S RAYER Lord, remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. LOSING RAYER Let us pray. O God, for our redemption You gave Your only-begotten Son to death and by His glorious resurrection delivered us from the power of our enemy. Grant that all our sins be drowned through daily repentance and that day by day we arise to live before You in righteousness and purity forever; through Jesus hrist, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Those who confess the faith declared at this altar and who desire to receive communion today are asked to read our communion statement, the blue communion card found in the pew rack and sign the bottom of the reverse side so that our communion records might be complete. IN REGARD TO HOLY OMMUNION: According to Scripture, Holy ommunion should be celebrated by those who are: United in a common faith (1 or. 10:16-17, 21-22; Rom. 16:17); Repentant of sins (1 or. 5:11, Matt. 18:17-18); Able to examine their lives (1 or. 11:27-29); and believe that in this precious meal they receive the true body and blood of Jesus given and shed for the forgiveness of their sins (Luke 22:19-22). Since Scripture teaches that those people who do not fully understand the meaning of this meal eat and drink to their own harm (1or. 11:27-29), and because the Lord s Supper is the supreme act of stating our unity in faith and doctrine, we would ask those people who are visiting with us to please speak with one of our pastors, before communing, in order that we might fulfill our responsibility of properly instructing people in the right use of the precious Sacrament. 7

FOOD DRIVE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED This is the final weekend of the food drive at Faith Lutheran, so if you have food donations, be sure to drop them off in the Narthex soon.
