Amen God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness and grow into the fullness of Jesus hrist, our Savior and Lord. Amen Silence is kept for reflection. This insider world is not our home. We have our eyes peeled for the ity about to come. Let s take our place outside with 6

7 Jesus, no longer pouring out the sacrificial blood of animals but pouring out sacrificial praises from our lips to God in Jesus name. 16 Make sure you don t take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus hrist; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. 12 EUHARISTI RAYER Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. In July, members brought in 60+ new backpacks and school supplies - 20 of these backpacks with supplies were given to children who attended the July Gathering Inn dinner and the rest went to children at St. John's rogram for Real hange. August Helping Hands brought 40 new, large duffel bags which were delivered to Koinonia, giving foster youth a bag to call their own to keep their belongings. The congregation continues to respond generously to Helping Hands appeals. On behalf of our community youth - THANK YOU!! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Readings for Next Sunday, September 16, 2018 Seventeenth Sunday after entecost Three weeks ago we heard John s gospel s version of eter s confession of faith. This week we hear Mark s version, when eter says, You are the Messiah. In John, the stumbling block is Jesus invitation to eat his flesh, given for the life of the world. In Mark too the scandal has to do with Jesus words about his own coming death, and here eter himself stumbles over Jesus words. But Jesus is anointed (the meaning of messiah ) in Mark only on the way to the cross (14:3); so we are anointed in baptism with the sign of the cross. 19 OMMEMORATIONS FOR THE WEEK: eter laver, priest, missionary to olombia, died 1654 Sunday, September 9, 2018 Born into Spanish nobility, laver became a Jesuit missionary, and served in present-day olombia. His ministry was focused on the slaves that arrived there. He gave them food and medicine, learned their dialects, and taught them hristianity. John hrysostom, Bishop of onstantinople, died 407 Thursday, September 13, 2018 John was a priest in Antioch and an outstanding preacher. His eloquence earned him the nickname "hrysostom" ("golden mouth"). Appointed bishop of onstantinople, seat of the empire, he criticized corruption in the court. As a result, he was exiled by the empress. Holy ross Day Friday, September 14, 2018 Helena, mother of onstantine, made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and found what may be the actual site of Jesus' crucifixion. Her son built two churches there, and the dedication of one of them gave rise to this celebration of our Lord's victory on the cross. OMMISSIONING & BLESSING 19
