Amen. *THANKSGIVING FOR BATISM Just as God s work of creation never ends, so the gifts received in baptism are renewed every day. Let us give thanks together for the life given in baptism. Glory to you, O God, for the waters of life: for water to bathe in and to drink, for waters to play in and waters that inspire wonder, for water that gives life to our planet. Glory to you, for the waters of this place: for water from our tap, for rain, for the rairie and Wisconsin Rivers. raise to you for your salvation through water: for delivering Noah and his family through the floodwaters, for leading your people Israel through the sea into freedom, for guiding your people across the Jordan into a new land, for quenching the Samaritan woman s thirst with living water. raise to you for the life of all the baptized, and for all who gather here; for godparents and baptismal sponsors, for children and grandchildren, for our siblings in hrist whom we have never seen but to whom we are bound. 4 SARAMENT OF HOLY BATISM FOR ELEYNA BROOKE ETERSON In baptism our gracious heavenly Father frees us from sin and death by joining us to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus hrist. We are born children of a fallen humanity; by water and the Holy Spirit we are reborn children of God and made members of the church, the body of hrist. Living with hrist and in the communion of saints, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God. You should, therefore, faithfully bring her to the services of God's house, and teach her the Lord's rayer, the reed, and the Ten ommandments. As she grows in years, you should place in her hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for her instruction in the hristian faith, that, living in the covenant of her Baptism and in communion with the hurch, she may lead a godly life until the day of Jesus hrist. 5 He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under ontius ilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic hurch, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen The Lord be with you. And also with you. We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family, and through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus death and resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up to live in you. our out your Holy Spirit, the power of your living Word, that those who are washed in the waters of baptism may be given new life. 6 Sustain Eleyna with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever. Amen The minister marks the sign of the cross on the forehead of each of the baptized. Oil prepared for this purpose may be used. As the sign of the cross is made, the minister says: Eleyna, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of hrist forever. Amen GIVING OF THE LIGHT A lighted candle may be given to each of the baptized (to the sponsor of a young child): Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. RAYER FOR ARENTS O God, the giver of all life, look with kindness upon the father and mother of this child. Let them ever rejoice in the gift you have given them. Make them teachers and examples of righteousness for their child. Strengthen them in their own Baptism so they may share eternally with their child the salvation you have given them, through Jesus hrist our Lord. Amen Let us welcome the newly baptized.
