Tuesday, August 9, :00 p.m. Opening Worship Stand L: Make haste, O God, to deliver me. C: O Lord, make haste to help me. L: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; C: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. PSALM 8 L: O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. C: Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. L: When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, C: what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? L: Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. C: You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, L: all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, C: the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. C: O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Silence for meditation HYMN 3

LESSON: Mark 8: And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, Who do people say that I am? 28 And they told him, John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets. 29 And he asked them, But who do you say that I am? Peter answered him, You are the Christ. 30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. Silence for meditation Stand RESPONSIVE PRAYER L: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, C: have mercy and hear us. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. 5

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen L: Show us your mercy, O Lord, C: and grant us your salvation. L: Clothe your ministers with righteousness. C: Let your people sing with joy. L Give peace, O Lord, in all the world; C: for only in you can we live in safety. L Lord, keep this nation under your care, C: and guide us in the way of justice and truth. L: Let your way be known upon earth; C: your saving health among all nations. L: Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten, C: nor the hope of the poor be taken away. L: Create in us clean hearts, O God, C: and sustain us with your Holy Spirit. L: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. L: Let us pray C: Amen O God of wisdom, in your goodness you provide faithful teachers for your Church. By your Holy Spirit give all teachers insight into your Word, holy lives as examples to us all, and the courage to know and do the truth; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 6

L: Heavenly Father, in whom we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. C: Amen BLESSING AND BENEDICTION L: Let us bless the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. L: The Lord bless us, defend us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life. C: Amen Copyright 2016 Augsburg Fortress. All rights reserved. 8 Wednesday, August 10, :00 a.m. Morning Prayer Stand L: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. L: O Lord, open my lips, C: And my mouth will declare your praise. L: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; C: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. PSALM 2 L: Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? C: The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, L: Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us. C: He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. L: Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, C: As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill. L: I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, You are my Son; today I have begotten you. C: Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. L: You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter s vessel. C: Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. L: Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. C: Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. 8

LESSON: Luke 9: Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. 30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah not knowing what he said. 34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him! 36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen. Silence for meditation Stand L: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, C: have mercy and hear us. 10

He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen L: O Lord, I cry to you for help. C: In the morning my prayer comes before you. L Give me the joy of your saving help again, C: and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit. L: Let my mouth be full of your praise C: and your glory all the day long. L: Every day will I bless you, C: and praise your name forever and ever. L: Awesome things will you show us in your righteousness, C: O God of our salvation, O hope of all the ends of the earth and of the seas that are far away. L: Bless the Lord, O my soul, C: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. L: He redeems my life from the grave, C: and crowns me with mercy and lovingkindness. L: Lord, hear my prayer, C: and let my cry come before you. L: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. L: Let us pray Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things to your beloved Son, whom you anointed priest forever and king of all creation: Grant that all the people of the earth, now divided by the power of sin, may be united under the glorious and gentle rule of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 11

C: Amen L: We give thanks to you, heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ your dear Son, that you have protected us through the night from all danger and harm. We ask you to preserve and keep us, this day also, from all sin and evil, that in all our thoughts, words, and deeds we may serve and please you. Into your hands we commend our bodies and souls and all that is ours. Let your holy angels have charge of us, that the wicked one have no power over us. C: Amen BLESSING AND BENEDICTION L: Let us bless the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. L: The Lord almighty order our days and our deeds in his peace. C: Amen Copyright 2016 Augsburg Fortress.
