2 NOVEMBER 25, 2018: SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE PASTOR S NOTES FIRST READING: One like a Son of man comes. He is king! Glory and dominion belong to him! They are everlasting. No one can destroy his reign. Everyone serves him. On this solemnity we acclaim Christ as the King of the Universe and we identify him as the One who comes in our midst. SECOND READING: The passage from Revelation also includes a reference to Jesus Christ coming in the clouds. He is the past, present, and future. The ruler of the kings has made us priests for God, his Father. We are a kingdom of people who give glory, honor, and praise to Christ forever. GOSPEL: Jesus does not identify himself as a king in response to Pilate s question, but Jesus does admit to having a kingdom. His Kingdom, though, does not belong to this world. He only came to testify to the truth of his Kingdom, a kingdom in which the last will be first and the first will be the servant of all. Do we belong to the truth? Have we listened to his voice throughout this year? 1. CRAFT SHOW (OF 2018): This is now part of the parish s history. Let us now hope that the offering of your time and talent will have REAPED A GREAT HARVEST OF PROFIT. Time will tell as the figures & expenses are tabulated. As we all know that without our yearly fund raising endeavors St, Maria Goretti would NOT remain solvent. Thank you to Rosemary Grebeck all her army of helpers and supporters. Thank you for Young & old alike, for their much-appreciated help, contributions and patronage. 2. ADVENT/CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE : Week-end of November 24/25. The tree with tags-for-gifts will again be placed in the vestibule for parishioners to take & return with gifts for local children in need. 3. ADVENT CANDLES MEMORIALIZATION: : Amelia Sopkie by the Sopkie Family, George & Tina Matterazzo by Mary Beth Mullen, Ryan Snyder by Marty & Cynthia Snyder & Marty, Jr. and Crystal, John Mattie by Pattie Klosowski 4. LITTLE BLUE COLORED BOOKS/ANNUAL 2019 CALENDARS: These little blue books have been purchased for you to take - to assist you in a daily prayerful & meditative way, to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Christ. They are available in two of the four baskets which can be found in the vestibule. A free-will offering may be made, but is not required. CALENDARS FOR 2019: In the other two baskets are our annual calendars for 2019 (underwritten by the Corcoran Funeral Home we thank them). BOTH OF THESE WILL BE FOUND THE WEEK- ENDS OF NOVEMBER 17/18, NOVEMBER 24/25 and DECEMBER 1/2. In these baskets, as well, are the traditional Christmas wafers for any/all who wish to have them, for an offering of $3.00. The offering can simply by placed in the basket where you find the wafers. 5. POINSETTIA MEMORIALS: Two stands in the shape of Christmas trees will stand in the sanctuary on either side of the Presidential area for Christmas and the season. The poinsettias which will be placed upon them may be memorialized in memory or in honor of your loved ones. Special RED ENVELOPES containing a label to be filled out with your information will be available beginning this weekend. $15.00 is requested to be placed in these envelopes and returned with the names written on them to be remembered/printed in bulletin insert. These special envelopes are different than those flower envelopes in your mailed packets. These may also be placed in the collection with any contribution of your choice. But it will ONLY BE from the red envelopes that a list of the memorials will be printed and inserted in the December 23rd bulletin. That means that the DEADLINE for the red envelope return is Friday, Dec. 14th. 6. ABOUT TODAY S SOLEMNITY: This Solemnity was added to the liturgical calendar by Pius XI in It is a fitting celebration to the end of Ordinary Time and transitions nicely into the Advent call to prepare for the coming King. Christ s kingship is eschatological, already present in the Church but to be fulfilled for all things at the end, and so cannot be divorced entirely from the idea of the last things, for which harvest is an appropriate image. This solemnity gives a preview of the coming fulfillment of the reign of Christ, which we will then spend Advent being asked to prepare for. It serves as both the fulfillment of the story as told throughout the liturgical year and as a transition back into Advent.

ST. MARIA GORETTI PASTA DINNER--THANK YOU Our Pasta Dinner was a huge success. Thank you to all who made this an event enjoyed by all. Mark your calendars for the Spring Pasta Dinner, Sunday April 7th (tentative). Net profit will be reported in the coming weeks. SPECIAL COLLECTION LAST WEEKEND Thank you for your generous support last week to the collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development! As a parish, we helped to support those on the margins who are living in poverty in the United States. If you missed the collection, it s not too late to give! Visit and click on How to Give on the left. Feast of the Immaculate Conception Mass Obligation The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is on December 8 th, which this year falls on a Saturday. Please note that the obligation to attend Mass is not lifted (as with other Holy Days) for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Thus, the faithful must fulfill this obligation by attending Mass for the Holy Day (either Friday vigil or Saturday), and they must fulfill their Sunday Mass obligation (either Saturday vigil or Sunday). When: Sat., Dec. 8, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sun., Dec. 9, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Many different choices of homemade cookies, candies and fudge will be available to choose from; from the stand-by favorites like chocolate chip and peanut butter, to the specialty cookies that you only get to enjoy around Christmas! Lucky buyers will pay by the pound for their selections, the price is $8 per pound. ANGEL PROJECT Once again we will sponsor the Angel Project. Catholic Social Services will give us the name tags of 125 children who are in need of gifts for Christmas. The name tags will be available the this weekend, November on the Christmas tree in the vestibule. Please take a tag from the tree. On the sign-up sheet; put the tag #, your name & telephone # on the sheet in the vestibule. Buy the gifts on the tag (you do not need to buy all the gifts on the tag, sometimes children get carried away). Wrap the gifts and put the tag either on top of the gift or on the bag if you use a gift bag. Please return the gifts with the tag by the weekend of Dec. 8-9th. If you are unable to get your gifts to the church to by this date please call Susan at (570) to arrange a pickup time before Dec. 9th. Also, please pay attention to the gender of the child on the tag. Many names can be either a boy or a girl (e.g. - Paris, Dana, Lee). We don t want Santa to give wrong gender items to the children. Thanks a million for being a Christmas Angel to these children.
