2 DATES FOR YOUR DIARY NEXT CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING- Wednesday 8 th 7.15pm. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING- Sunday12 th March. 'At the centre of many discussions about change in churches today is the topic of worship. This is not surprising, for worship is at the centre of congregational life. To go to church means, for most members of congregations, to go to worship.... Worship styles are one of the most significant reasons that people choose to join a congregation. Correspondingly, they are central to the identity of most congregations. Worship is also central on a much deeper level. Worship is the locus of what several Christian traditions identify as the nourishing centre of congregational life: preaching, common prayer, and the celebration of ordinances or sacraments. Significantly, what many traditions elevate to the status of means of grace or even the marks of the church are essentially liturgical actions. Worship is central, most significantly, for theological reasons. Worship both reflects and shapes a community s faith. It expresses a congregation s view of God and enacts a congregation s relationship with God and each other.' (The Church of All Ages: Generations Worshipping Together, Howard A. Vanderall (Ed)) This is a quote from one of two papers that will be available after the services on Sunday regarding some challenges and future options regarding our Sunday service program. (These papers will also be available on our website then). The challenges are particularly around the numbers attending the 9:30 upstairs service and the interaction between various age groups on a Sunday morning. As a first step in dealing with this issue, the Moving Forwards paper invites you to prayerfully respond to the various approaches outlined in the papers. Please return your response by Sunday 5th March so that Council can discuss them at their next meeting on the 8th March. The second step will be a number of opportunities for discussion around the issues raised in the papers and your responses. AGM 2017 The Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday March 12th following the 9.30am service. All coordinators and group leaders please hand in (or ) typed reports to the office by Sunday 26 th February at the latest so that they will be available on Sunday March 5 th for reading. SAFE CHURCH TRAINING - 1ST APRIL It is important that our church is a safe place for all people, particularly children and other vulnerable people, such as the elderly. The Synod will be running an Induction Workshop on the 1st April for Nedlands Uniting attenders in order for us to be aware of, and together actively, build a safe church environment around all our vulnerable people. The Induction Workshop covers understanding of how abuse can occur; boundary violations and grooming; protecting children and other vulnerable people; types and indicators of abuse; responding to disclosures and reporting protocols; how to ensure safe Church leaders and volunteers; and developing safe programmes. More information and registration details will be available next week, but if you are involved in a ministry with children or vulnerable people, you will need to attend either this one, or one of the other workshops being run in other churches, this year.
