With your parent, visit someone that is in the hospital. (1 pt.)

Read with your parent Matthew 10:42. Talk to your parent and think of ways that this scripture can be lived in your life. Draw one of your ideas. (1 pt.) Help your parent or another adult with a ministry that he or she performs in your congregation. (1 pt.) Make and deliver Encouragement Cards for sick, elderly, or shutin people in your congregation. (1 pt.) Help your parent prepare and deliver a meal to a needy person. (1 pt.) For at least two months, read (or be read to by your parent) a chapter of the Bible at least 4 days a week. As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15. Discuss the meaning of your poster with your parent. Hang it in your home! (1 pt.) Help your parent with a ministry that he or she performs in your congregation. (1 pt.) Make and deliver Encouragement Cards for sick, elderly, or shutin people in your congregation. (1 pt.) 5 Fourth Grade Faithful Servant Program (12 Points to Earn a Book) Memory Verses (1 pt. each) Discuss with you parent Peter s sermon to the people found in Acts 2: (1 pt.) Discuss the subject of baptism with someone, preferably your parents, so you can explain to someone when a person is ready to be baptized. (1 pt.) Who is the founder of the church? Discuss your answers with your parents after reading Matthew 16: (1 pt.) Plan and carry out a service that requires your giving of your time, talents, and resources--all of which come to you as blessings from God. You will be returning these blessings to God through His church, unsaved persons or needy persons. (2 pts.) Make a list of put-downs or insults that you have heard and write what you think each one means and how it made you feel. Review this with your parent. (1 pt.) Read Galatians 6:10 and discuss with you parent how you can put this into practice. (1 pt.) Read Matthew 7:21 and explain to you parent how important it is to do what God wants you to do. (1 pt.) Visit someone who is sick, shut-in, or elderly in your congregation. Discuss with your parent why God wants us to serve these people. (1 pt.) 6 Fifth Grade Faithful Servant Program (16 Points to Earn a Book) Memory Verses (1 point each) Read Psalm 139 and answer these questions for your parent. (1 pt.) A. What does God know? (Verses 2 and 4). B. What does God understand? (Verse 2) C. What is God doing, and what has He done? (Verses 1,10-13) D. What does God see? (Verses 3 and 16) E. Where is God? (Verses 5,8-9) F. What should we ask God to do? (Verses 23-24) Read the prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13. Discuss the prayer with your parent. 1 pt.) What is God like? 1 Timothy 1:17 and John 4:24. Discuss with your parent. (1 pt.) Participate in Bible Bowl. (4 pts.) Select one Bible character and tell his/her story in three minutes to your Bible class. (1 pt.) Read Matthew 7:12 and discuss with your parent how you can put this teaching into work in your life. (1 pt.) Read Matthew 5:14-16 and discuss with your parent five ways you can be a light of the world. (1 pt.) Make a list of things that Jesus did for other people. Discuss three of them with your parent. (1 pt.) With your parent, choose someone to serve. Do three acts of service for that person, under the supervision on your parent. (1 pt.) Read Deuteronomy 5:16 and Ephesians 6:1-3. Discuss with your counselor the importance of learning to obey your parent. (1 pt.) List at least four gifts or talents God has given you. Use one to benefit another person. (1 pt.) Make a list of ways God has blessed His people. II Chronicles 7:14. (1 pt.) Read a newspaper, magazine or Web site. Find 3-4 articles that deal with hunger and organizations that help fight hunger. Discuss with your parent what you could do to help. (1 pt.) For at least 3 months, read a chapter from your Bible at least 4 days a week. Keep a record of what you have read. ( 4 pts.) For at least 3 months, keep a prayer list and have a daily prayer time. ( 4 pts.) Participate in Bible Bowl (4 pts.)

7 Dear Parents, This year the memory verse program will be expanded to include other opportunities for learning and spiritual growth. On each grade level s record sheet is written the points that each child should earn before the end of next summer in order to earn a book. He/she is welcome to only memorize the memory verses to earn a book, but it is fine if your child prefers to do the other activities on the list. Also, he/she can do a combination of memory work and activities. At the yellow desk a record is kept of which verses your child recites. It will be your responsibility to keep a record of the activities that you and he/she have accomplished together. In August you will need to turn that record sheet in so the points can be added up with the memory verse chart. These ideas have been borrowed by the Boy Scouts of America Members of Church of Christ for Scouting Servant Leadership Series, which is overseen by Kent Barnett, a member of Hillcrest.
