1 Noah Unit Bible Truth: God takes care of us and keeps His promises. Bible Verse: Noah did everything just as God commanded him. Genesis 6:22 Bible Basis: Genesis 6:1 9:17 Children will learn: Noah was a good man who obeyed God. We need to obey God also, and begin to get an understanding of what it means to obey God. To thank God for saving Noah, his family, and the animals. We can praise God for the rainbow, the sign of God s promised to Noah. Lessons: Sept. 23 Noah building the big boat Sept. 30 Noah and the animals enter the ark Oct. 7 Safe in the boat while floodwaters cover the earth Oct. 14 God sends a rainbow as a sign of his promise For the next four weeks, we will be learning about Noah s Ark in the preschool area. These lessons will not only be a fun time of exploring God s Word, but will also be a great time to incorporate basic preschool skills like beginning counting, animal sounds, and colors of the rainbow. Teaching your child about God doesn t have to be complicated. All through your everyday activities, you can talk about God. The main point of our unit will be teaching the children that God takes care of us, just like He took care of Noah and his family. You can share with your child all of the ways God has taken care of you and provided for your family. You can also mention the story of Noah s ark anytime the weather changes (especially when it rains), when you talk about colors, if you see a rainbow, when you see boats on the water, at the zoo, and any place you are around animals. Here are some activities you might do with your child to discuss the story more:

2 Animal Collages: Children love pictures of animals. Start by drawing a simple outline of an ark on a piece of paper. Then you can use old magazines to find animal pictures or stickers to get pictures of animals and then glue them to the paper. This makes a simple, wonderful collage Rainbow Filters: Provide the children with white coffee filters, washable colored markers, and spray bottles of water. After they color the filters with the markers, have them spray water on the filters to watch the colors spread to a rainbow! Cloud Formation: Give the child a blue or gray piece of paper and have the children squeeze glue all over their paper. Then give them cotton batting or cotton balls and encourage them to pull apart the batting and cotton balls to make different shapes of clouds. Discuss what the clouds look like during storms. Snack/Cooking Idea: Cooking with children helps develop their math skills and helps them to learn how to follow directions. It also allows for some great conversation! Ask many questions while cooking with your children to encourage conversation! Be sure to ask specific themed questions while making these fun snacks! Making an Edible Rainbow: Have the children help you wash and cut up fruit. (watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, oranges, bananas, etc.) Give your child a spoonful of each fruit. They can make patterns or a rainbow design on their plate with the fruit and then eat their delicious and healthy snack! Maybe they can even try a new fruit in this activity! Water Activities: There are some fun water activities you can do with your child during bath time, in the sink, or even in a bucket of water. Here are just a couple of ideas. Making Waves: Tell the children that when the rain and wind is heavy, there are big waves in the oceans and seas. They can use whisks in the water to stir up big waves. Then encourage discussion of what it must have been like in the ark with the big waves tossing the ark. Sink and Float: Of course we cannot have a story about water and NOT do this! This is a great beginning science activity for children! Give the children several different objects bath toys, plastic boats, plastic fish, toy animals, rocks, cups, etc. and have the children set them on the water to see if they sink or float. Talk about how the ark floated on top of the water. Next, provide various materials to construct boats, i.e., wood, styrofoam, paper, model magic, foil, milk cartons, etc. Can they make a boat that floats? Which of these materials

3 floats the best and makes the best boat? Can you make a boat out of duplo blocks that floats? How many little plastic animals can you get on your boat before it sinks. Songs/Activities: Children love music! Here are a couple of songs you might try. Faithful Noah Had an Ark (Sung to the tune of Old MacDonald Had a Farm) And on that ark he had a bear, with a grr-grr here and a grr-grr there. Here a grr, there a grr, everywhere a grr-grr. And on that ark he had a dove, with a flap-flap here and a flap-flap there. Here a flap, there a flap, everywhere a flap-flap. And on that ark he had an elephant, with a trump-trump here and a trump-trump there. Here a trump, there a trump, everywhere a trump-trump. Oh yeah, Oh yeah, Whoa Who Built the Ark?

4 Old man Noah built the Ark, He built it out of hickory bark. He built it long, both wide and tall. With plenty of room for the large and small. In came the animals two by two, Hippopotamus and kangaroo. In came the animals three by three, Two big cats and a bumble bee.
