We are conducting our AGM Part 2 on Sunday March 29th, at 11 am (or as close to that as we can!). ALL groups are requested to submit a report of their activities: some have customarily submitted a report, and indeed have provided them already for this year; the request is extended to those interest groups that have started up in the last 5 years or so, so that we have a complete record of this congregation's activities. As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, the current Seeviews has short statements from several small groups: a report similar to those statements would be sufficient. Max. Men s Dinner The next Men s Dinner will be held on Wednesday 18th March at the Brighton Esplanade Hotel, cnr. Esplanade and jetty Road. 3 Cogs 'n' Coffee There is no coffee in Paradise. After spending an hour and a bit on our bikes getting to Paradise we discovered there was no coffee to be found anywhere! What a let down with plenty of tongues hanging out for their fix. Had to ride all the way back to the glamour and glitz of the CBD to get our coffee. Next weeks ride will be out of Noarlunga centre along the coast to Moana, catch the train that originates at 9.11am from Hove. Brian ) Church Council Elections - There are several vacancies. Elections for membership of Church Council will be conducted in conjunction with our Annual General meeting (Pt 2) on March 29 th with nominations published today- March 15th Max Howland (Chairperson) Book Release from Wheatland House Dr Paul Whetham is a Christian clinical psychologist from Lifeboat Stories who operates next door in Wheatland House. Last Friday he released 2 books and I was asked to be speaker for the book launch: Note, after reading Built for Adventure you'll understand why the practice is called Lifeboat Stories! Built for Adventure: Toward mystery, meaning and mental health (New) and Hard to be Holy: The untold stories of church leaders (2nd Ed) The books are easy to read with colour pictures and will be on sale available after the service for $12 each OR 2 books for $20. Or you can buy copies from the church office from Monday morning to Thursday lunchtime. Beyond Seacliff Opportunity to serve with Aboriginal people on Covenanting Committee Are you interested in Aboriginal issues? The Covenanting Committee looks at Aboriginal issues both in and outside of the church, and is made up of both Aboriginal and non-aboriginal members. If you have an interest in serving on this committee or

4 would like to find out more, please contact Rachel Dempster on or Report to Seacliff Congregation from Church Council 10 th February and 10 th March Council met again in March to deal with business in hand, but also to give some time to an overview of our work as a Congregation in relation to our mission goals. We were delighted with the visit of the Moderator last Sunday and with the way the day unfolded. With her rapport with people and her remembering of people even from many years ago, Deidre is a great asset to the Uniting Church in its various relationships, as well as a fine leader for us. The proposed community-interest group One of the goals we adopted for 2014 and 2015 was to try to establish an interest group that could be attractive to members of the wider community as well as Seacliff members. A Men s Shed and a Community Garden were suggested as possibilities, and both were investigated. As it turns out, there has not been anyone available able to provide the long-term commitment that such a project requires: Council has reluctantly resolved to recommend to the AGM that this project be deleted from our list of goals for this year. Core Qualities At our recent Covenant Renewal service, we affirmed the Core Qualities of our life as a community. One of those is that we are outward looking. On the one hand it seems that as a congregation we don t have a major project adopted as a formal undertaking; on the other hand we know that there are many people in our church who are very involved as a personal commitment in a wide variety of community service organisations. And we are mindful of the numerous smaller projects that are undertaken regularly at Seacliff. We hope to bring some ideas to the AGM about how we can give some expression to this Core Quality of our life as a community.

5 Fund raising Several people and groups have been engaged in fund-raising activities in recent times the weekly produce stall is one example. There has occasionally been some confusion when multiple activities happen at the same time. We want to encourage these activities which generate benefit for people beyond our congregation. In order to help them all run smoothly together, we have drawn up a set of procedures and produced a form that we ask people to fill in so that everyone can know what is planned. Details will be published soon. Church Office 1 The opening hours of the Church Office are changing: from April 1 st the office will be staffed on Thursdays and Fridays only. Dennis will manage remote monitoring of the answering machine. 2 Bookings Von and Dennis will jointly manage the taking and recording of bookings for use of the church premises. Both these decisions will be reviewed in 3 months time. A reminder arising from this if you wish to conduct an event on our church premises, including in conjunction with one of our small groups, please make sure you check and make a booking for the space. We cannot assume space will be free. Information and news Council Executive resolved to underwrite the costs of providing the marquee for our children attending KCO, up to $200. You may recall that Pancake Day raised $94.30 for Uniting Care. Council resolved to round that up to $100; we selected the Eleanora Centre at Noarlunga Downs as our preferred beneficiary. Peter has arranged Study and Annual Leave for early June more details later. Easter postcards have been ordered.
