Crosses are everywhere. What does the cross mean to you? What is the message of the cross? During the season of Lent (February 17-March 24), we will take time to examine the message of the cross. The season of Lent is a forty day period not counting the Sundays that prepares us for Easter. Traditionally, Lent is a time of self-denial and reflection. What better way to prepare for the celebration of Easter than taking time to reflect on the meaning and the message of the cross. There will be other opportunities for worship and reflection during the season of Lent as well. We will begin our Lenten journey with an Ash Wednesday service on February 13. The service will begin at 7:00 a.m. and will include a brief message with a challenge, Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes which reminds us of our mortality. On Holy Thursday (March 28), we will gather at 6:00 p.m. for a service of Holy Communion and reflection on the crucifixion. From Good Friday through Easter morning a prayer vigil will be organized. The time and place for a Sunrise service is still pending. Our Life Groups will start on the first Sunday of Lent (February 17) and run through Palm/Passion Sunday (March 24). There will be one or two Bible Studies and a snack supper following the study so there will be plenty of opportunities for learning and fellowship. I will be leading a study on discipleship which will focus on our call to make disciples. In His Hands, Monty

5 Scott s Youth Corner Thank you On Behalf of the Youth and Youth Team we would like to thank everyone for their support last Sunday at the Souper Bowl luncheon!! We are so blessed to be a part of such a loving caring church! The funds raised will help out with summer t- shirts and a few other expenses throughout the year. Scott s Youth Page... Mission Trips The first deposit of $50 and Mission Trip Covenants are new due. We need those ASAP! The trips are as follows: The senior trip we will leave June 22nd and return on June 29th. The Mid High Trip[ will be July 8th-14th. Both trips require a $100 non re-fundable deposit with $50 of that due by February 1st and the second $50 due May 1st. I hope you all are able to go with us on these trips. They will be a great learning experiences for each of us as we continue to seek God and serve His people! Trustee Chairman, Jim Bob Barnett, read the following motion: I move the First United Methodist Church approve the building concept presented by trustees, and approve funding for detailed plans. With approval of this motion a building committee will be formed to develop the project from this point forward. This motion was seconded by Netta Null. The motion passed without discussion. She would stand on her front porch and shout PRAISE THE LORD! Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations he would shout There ain t no Lord!! Hard times set in on the elderly lady, and she prayed for GOD to send her some assistance. She stood on her porch and shouted PRAISE THE LORD. GOD I NEED FOOD! IAM HAVING A HARD TIME. PLEASE LORD, SEND ME SOME GROCERIES!! The next morning the lady went out on her porch an noted a large bag of groceries and shouted, PRAISE THE LORD! The neighbor jumped from behind a bush and said, Aha! I told you there was no Lord. I bought these God didn t! The lady jumping up and down yelled PRAISE THE LORD. Not only did he send groceries, but he made the devil pay for them! PRAISE THE LORD!
