1 BUILDING A VOCATION CULTURE IN TODAY S CHURCH Pictured here, laying prostrate, is Deacon Anthony Federico as he was ordained to the transitional diaconate in May of this year, one step closer to becoming a priest for the Archdiocese of Hartford, God-willing, in the spring of The teens of our parish were blessed to have Anthony join them as a chaperone in 2015 and 2016 as they traveled to the Steubenville East Youth Conference. He has also spoken to our young people at our Apologetics by the Bonfire over the summer and in the past at our Theology on Tap. Let us pray for our seminarians and for all young people that they may be open to God s call to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life.

5 Do You Know Your Faith? DO YOU KNOW WHY WE BREAK THE BREAD AT MASS? The reason we break the bread at Mass is that through Communion we, though many in number, become one body because we eat the one bread of life, which is Christ. During the Lamb of God, the priest breaks the body of Christ. This means that as the body of Jesus was broken on the cross to take away the sins of the world, so it is broken again to nourish us in our constant effort to rise above sinfulness and to grow in goodness. Holy Communion is our most intimate union with to bring some share of his life to all we meet. After the distribution of Communion and completion of the communion song, it is time to pause and in prayer savor our union with Jesus. After Communion, the priest prays the post will result in certain and definite spiritual benefits for those who have shared the Eucharist. May we bring the Eucharistic Jesus that resides within us to everyone that we meet, amen! Fr. 8 As we are called to be good stewards of God s creation, we have decided, as a parish, to eliminate the use of Styrofoam cups completely and reduce our use of plastic as much as possible. Americans throw away billion Styrofoam coffee cups every year and 2.5 million plastic beverage bottles every hour. Styrofoamtakes 500 years to decompose and although the technology torecycle Styrofoam does exist, local recycling is not available, therefore Styrofoam cupsthat are thrown in the trash are dumped into landfills and are there to stay. Paper products are biodegradable and nontoxic to the environment. We ask you to NOT USE any STYROFOAM products. Hot/cold Paper cups have been purchased in bulk and are available at the Pastoral Center. Please DO NOT use personal singleuse plastic water bottles for large events.
