CHRISTIAN the S A R D I N I A C H U R C H O Journal F C H R I S T 7130 Bachman Road, Sardinia, Oh * (937) * website: sardiniacc.com * sardiniacc@gmail.com * August 2017 Photos from July 8th s Community Fireworks Making Funnel cakes Funnel cake, anyone? How about a hotdog, popcorn, chips or a bottle of cold water? Oh, what fun! The four bouncy houses were a hit with the kids. If you have computer access, for the older kids fun activities (whiffle ball and corn hole tournaments) see the videos on the church s Facebook.

More Photos from July 8th s CommunityFireworks Plenty of seating, very pleasant weather, and good music and entertainment coming from the gazebo made for a lovely evening. Parking everywhere: in church parking lot, on church grounds, along both sides of Bachman Road and in business parking lots toward town. Ending the day with a wonderful fireworks display. Happy Independence Day! To God be the glory as we reached out to the community with an expression of God s love for each and every one. Everyone who worked so hard and so lovingly has been blessed as well. Thank you, Lord.

Kevin s Comments It s the first week of school coming up this month. It s exciting but also a bit scary for the children and not just for them! In the midst of thinking about our children s stress levels our stress levels increase as well; especially if you are a bus driver or a teacher. (HaHa) We sometimes worry about how our children will fit in. Will they like their new teacher? Will they make new friends? How will we keep up with the hectic schedule of running to practices, after school programs, making lunches, etc? When we experience those anxiety levels rising, we need to stop and say: There will always be unknowns. There will always be things outside my control. There will always be bumps in the road. Whatever comes, we will deal with it with God s help. The what-ifs in life only have power over me when I forget what-is: God is with us. For what lies ahead is no mystery to him. I don t need to wonder what will happen I know: whatever comes, I will (and can) deal with it with God s help. This may be a worthy prayer for you to pray with your children and grandchildren and also pray yourself: Prayer: Dear God, thank you that we get to go back to school and be filled with knowledge and wisdom. We pray that our hearts can always be yours and, as we learn our reading and math, let us also learn to study your Word. We love you and we honor you! Amen P.S: May this time of year serve as a great reminder to all of us of the importance of Doing our best to present ourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 May we all commit to being the best students we can be (of His will), so that we can hear the great Teacher (Jesus) say to us, Well done, good and faithful student. And may we understand that this means not just knowing His Word but applying it to our lives as we seek to make a difference for him in both this upcoming school year and in our lives. Kevin

Student Ministry News Questions? Please contact He who separates himself seeks his own desire, he quarrels against all sound wisdom. A fool does not delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own mind. Proverbs 18:1-2 What I like about passages in Proverbs is reading them and seeing them play out in life. It s one thing to read a passage which makes logical or moral sense; however it is far more lasting when you see the validity of it unfold right in front of you. With this passage we might imagine the fool out-right saying that he doesn t care what others think. I ve seen this passage play out quite a bit when it comes to both students and adults dating. You ve probably noticed it too from friends and relatives (I admit I ve done it at times too). Before they started dating they talked to friends, made time for friends, and took counsel from friends. Then they have no time for friends or seemingly don t care anymore. These are often signs of an unhealthy relationship, doing exactly what this passage says; separating oneself to seek their own desire and often not adhering to the advice of others. There s many other ways this passage is also true and not just when it comes to dating. However, the purpose of Proverbs isn t to have a biblical reference point as proof to give to someone perceived as being foolish. The purpose is for you to meditate and practice it to avoid foolish decisions. As I said in the beginning, the foolishness Proverbs warns us against is rarely as straight-forward as we might think when we read it and it often sneaks up on us until it s too late. Does this mean that we must maintain all friendships at whatever cost and never speak our mind? Absolutely not! Understanding isn t the same as simply hearing the words. It is being able to observe the cause and effect deeply. That is the purpose of the Proverbs: to get you to observe the cause and effect of actions, thoughts, and behaviors. A word often used in Proverbs is listen and when it doesn t say that it tells of a situation where listening isn t occurring, such as in this passage. When we seek our own desire we don t listen, we speak. We also start to cut ourselves off from those who say things that we do not want to hear but instead want to be listened to. What is interesting is the person wanting to be listened to should take a moment to listen to themselves at times. This is an classic example of how deep the problem of not listening is. How can we practice better listening? It takes more than just hearing the words (or reading) to listen. We are also meant to use our brain to grind and mull over what is said. As this passage says, the fool is not interested in thinking about such things and only wants to spew what he already has digested even if it is not much. Joe

Friendly Circle News The Friendly Circle ladies met at the church Wednesday, July 12th. The meeting opened with Devotions entitled The Real Us given by Bea Fryman. What is your reaction when someone pulls out the old family photo album and begins to turn the pages of history your history? A mad dash to the mirror will confirm the fact that there most certainly has been a drastic, not necessarily for the better, change. Does the mirror show the real person? Are you really the person in the photo album or the image in the mirror? Tall or short, fat or thin, young or old, is that the real person the real you? God doesn t see us as the person in the album or in the mirror. His eye penetrates deeper than either the mirror or the camera. God looks beyond the facial expressions and the outward actions; He looks down into the heart. What does God see in your heart? He sees us exactly as we are. Are we women overly concerned about getting laundry done or the house cleaned? Does God see us as frustrated individuals or does He see us with hearts filled with love and concern busy about our various duties but accepting those chores as part of the ministry that God has entrusted to our care? Yes, we are more than what can be seen in a photo or mirror. We are His workmanship created in His likeness. But because a sinful world cannot see us as God sees us it is of utmost importance that our outward appearance reflect our relationship to Christ. Bea concluded the Devotions with prayer and everyone enjoyed the delicious refreshments provided by Bea and Hazel Downing. The business meeting opened with pledges to the American flag, the Christian flag, and the Bible. Routine business was conducted. Most of the evening was spent in talking about the future of the Friendly Circle. Our group is shrinking due mostly to people moving away or no longer able to attend. As we looked back over the years, we thought of the many activities the Circle had planned or participated in. When did the Circle begin? Does anyone have a copy of the history? We do know that many of our ladies are the granddaughters, great granddaughters, nieces, etc. of some the of the Charter members.oh how we loved those special ladies. This is one reason we would like to keep the Circle alive and growing! We spoke of activities we would like to resurrect: one being the Sweetheart Banquet and redoing some of the things we did back then. We also would like to take a group to volunteer at Matthew 25 Ministries and do more visiting of nursing homes. There are many, many things we can do along with our monthly fellowship so our plea is..ladies, please consider joining us. We were very pleased to have Gail Rios at our meeting. Gail is a wonderful addition and is excited about getting involved. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, August 9th, at 7:00 p.m. We will be wrapping shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child after the meeting. Would you please come and help? We don t expect everyone to come every meeting but please come when you can and help your sisters in Christ keep this group working for the Lord. Debbie Singleton will have Devotions and our hostess will be Hazel Downing. Submitted by Bea Fryman
