4 Youth Ministry // You are Not Untouchable As young people, it is easy to have the mindset that you are untouchable. Many times you wake up and go about your daily lives, never thanking God for the things that He is doing as well as the things that He has already done for us. Any one of us can be diagnosed with a sickness. Any of us can be in a bad accident. None of us knows what our future holds. We base life on our present condition, believing that nothing bad will ever happen to us. We simply think that we are untouchable. There is a story told in Luke chapter 17 about ten men who were lepers. Society looked down on them because of their condition. The difference between these men and with us today is that they knew that they were not untouchable. Then as Jesus entered their village, the ten men called out from a distance (because they felt that their condition was too bad to be in Jesus presence and society already treated them like outcasts) and they asked Jesus to have mercy on them. Jesus told them to go and see the priest and they would be cleansed. The ten men did what Jesus asked and they were indeed cleansed. Only one out of the ten men came back to give Jesus praise for healing him. Jesus asked, were there not nine more? And Jesus told the one, that his faith healed him. We all have things that we will go through in life. We will have some ups and we will definitely experience some downs. However, we have to maintain our relationship with God and we have to be careful to give Him all the praise, the glory, and the honor before and after He brings us out. None of us are untouchable, but with an untouchable God fighting on our behalf, that should cause us to praise His name everyday of our lives. 8 National Nutrition Month National Nutrition Month is recognized in March. The theme for 2014 is Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right. You can enjoy eating right by following the healthy eating tips below: Make half your plate fruits and vegetables Make at least half your grains whole Vary your protein choices Cut back on sodium and empty calories from solid fats and added sugars Enjoy your food but eat less Be physically active For more information National Nutrition month and ways to eating right, visit We often use the nutritional facts labels on products as a resource to understand the nutritional value of foods. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced the proposed update to the Nutrition Facts labels for food packaging. This will be the first time in over 20 years that the nutrition facts labels have been changed. Our guiding principle here is very simple: that you as a parent and a consumer should be able to walk into your local grocery store, pick up an item off the shelf, and be able to tell whether it s good for your family, said First Lady Michelle Obama. So this is a big deal, and it s going to make a big difference for families all across this country. If the proposed changes are approved, you may see the following changes: Food labels will be easier to read and understand The amount of added sugars to a food product will be required. Calories from fat would be removed and replaced with the total calories per serving. Serving size would reflect what you actually eat. For more information on the proposed changes to the nutrition facts labels, visit the FDA website at BIBLE QUIZ Jesus illustrated the future coming of the Son of Man and his kingdom: When the tree sprouts leaves, he said, you know that is near; when various cosmic signs take place, you ll know the Son of Man and the kingdom of God are near. Choose the correct pair of words to fill in the two blanks. A. pine; winter B. beech; spring C. fig; summer D. olive; autumn See Luke 21:29-31 for the answer Page 8
9 Who Are You Wearing Before the Oscars, a big question for every glamorous celebrity is Who are you wearing? Fashion reporters and fans are eager to discover and imitate the latest designers and styles. Few of us will ever walk the red carpet in Hollywood, yet we receive a much more impressive wardrobe makeover when we accept Jesus as our Savior. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus turned our filthy rags of sin into dazzling white robes of righteousness (see Isaiah 61:10). This righteousness is embellished with good works that speak to our vibrant faith. How evident is your new outfit to people around you? As you get dressed each day, consider whether you re living in such a way that people will wonder Who are you wearing? Celebrating the past Embracing our future in Christ (Jeremiah 29:11) Union Chapel M. B. Church will have a weekend of worship and praise on Friday, May 16, and on Sunday, May 18, 2014, celebrating 25 years of faithful service for Pastor and Sis. O. Wendell Davis. The guest speaker for Sunday services will be Pastor Maurice Davis of the Tabernacle Baptist Church located in Biloxi, MS. Davis for their continuous commitment and faithfulness to Union Chapel M. B Church. God has blessed Union Chapel so let us bless them in a marvelous way.
