5 Looking Ahead to Ash Wednesday Page 5 Beloved Dust What comes after Disney? During the Sundays in Lent we will consider new and dynamic ways to pray. For many of us the primary way that we pray is to treat God like a 24/7 call line to help us get what we want or need. Our prayer is often made up of quick requests to God scattered at different times of day. We invite God into our lives. What if our prayer was a way that we were invited into God s life? Our Lenten Sunday series is Beloved Dust. Based on the book by Jamin Goggin and Kyle Strobel we will learn how our prayer life can transform us by connecting us with God. We are able to draw close to God by discovering the truth about ourselves. We are dust. We are beloved dust. God is not indifferent about us or far removed from our lives. God loves us deeply and that makes all the difference. Come and worship on Sundays this Lent and learn that prayer is not a place to hide but a place to abide. Discover that prayer isn t a technique to be forgiven but is a place where we live with God. We sometimes abuse technology in order to transcend our limitations but in our weakness we are empowered by God. When we get stuck and our lives aren t going well we might ask, What s wrong with me? How can I be better? Or we might try to reorganize a whole new plan. But the real question in our prayer is, What is God doing here? Where is God in this mess of our lives? Jesus does not reject our status as dust. We are beloved! We are beloved dust. Window Clings Do you remember where you & your spouse went on your first date? Do you know how many pairs of shoes your spouse owns? On Friday, February 10 th at 7:00pm five couples from Good Shepherd will test their knowledge about their spouse at Good Shepherd s Annual Newlywed Game. Bring your family, spouse or friends and join us for a night of fun, cupcakes, coffee and punch! Tickets may be purchased in advance at the church office or at the door for $5 per person or a maximum of $20 per family. This activity is a fundraiser for the youth attending camp and the Mission trip this summer. MISSION OF THE MONTH The Mission of the Month offering is received on the 2nd and 4th Sunday and Wednesday with our Noisy Offering by passing the bread pans. In January, $ was donated to St Dysmas Prison Ministry. The Good Shepherd window clings have arrived. This is a great way to visually show your support to Good Shepherd in our community. The Evangelism Board will be selling the clings for $1.00 between the services of Sunday, February 5th and 12th and on Wednesday night services on February 8th. After that they will be available at the church office. Friends in Christ, Mission on the Move 2015 and 2016 saw the need of repairing and chip sealing Good Shepherd Lutheran Church s parking lots. A chart was created to show every $100 given by members. The total cost of this project was $35, One half of the repair was completed in 2015 and the other half in Our members contributed $29, with the remainder of the total amount coming out of the Dedicated Building Account. Our giving is an expression of our love. It indicates how much we love God and how much we want the Church to accomplish its work. (2 Corinthians 8: 8,24)

7 Page 7 WELCA NEWS and NOTES Mother, Daughter, Friend Salad Luncheon will be held on Sunday, April 30 th at 2:00pm at Good Shepherd s Fellowship Hall. All women of the church and their daughters, mothers and friends are invited! We will be looking for a dozen women to host a table. The hostess will choose a theme (a book, a holiday, a party, a cartoon character use your imagination) and be responsible for setting a table for 8 using that theme. Paper plates may be used or if you prefer, dishes. Please have a centerpiece for your table (it can be something pretty, a stuffed animal, paper art, a cowboy hat, something silly, anything that fits your theme ). We will have tablecloths available, unless you want to bring your own. Please call me with your theme, so we don t double up! Closer to the event we will be asking for volunteers to bring salads or desserts. We have a speaker or two in mind, but will welcome your thoughts. Do you know someone who would be educational, funny or otherwise entertaining? Call Sharon Bossert / with questions, comments, speaker ideas Tickets will be $5.00 each with all profits going to Missions. Mark your calendars now for a FUN, FELLOWSHIP TIME!!! In service and fellowship, Sharon Bossert, President Good Shepherd Women of the ELCA It is time to update the PRAYER CHAIN LISTS. We currently have two groups of people willing to pray for our congregation, family and friends. WE ARE LoOKING FOR WOMEN and MEN willing to join our Good Shepherd prayer chains. It is NOT a large commitment of time. Some people will say a prayer as soon as they receive a name; some pray each day during a daily devotion such as Christ in Our Home. Some just say prayers throughout the day and add this person or persons when they think of them. Some add the persons to their evening prayers. A few people leave town for the winter or summer and we don't call them at those times. How/when you pray is between you and God. We believe strongly in the POWER OF PRAYER! Anytime someone doesn't answer, the caller just moves on to the next person on the list. As our granddaughter says, "Easy peasy lemon squeezy!" The idea is to bring these persons before God to ask for healing. If you are willing to join our Good Shepherd Prayer Chains, give me a call by the end of February with your name, phone number and preference for Day or Evening prayer chain. An updated list will be sent to all prayer chain members in early March. In His Service, Sharon Bossert
