Christmas is more than one worship service. Turn to page 5 for our schedule of Christmas worship celebrating God s gift of Jesus to a dark world in need of light. I like the new program! Hadlee Nilson, a 4 th grader, said when asked about the new Wednesday School activities. Read more on page 3 to find out more about how students feel about the new Sunday and Wednesday School activities. Do we have to take a picture? asked the kids in Hallelujah Chorus and Good Vibrations. The answer was Yes. They had to take a nice group picture for the new directory. However, after their nice group picture, they were able to take some silly pictures! Read more about the new directory on page 6. The Sunday and Wednesday School Families kicked off the holiday season this past week with Advent themed Family School activities. They made two ornaments tying together the last two rotations of lessons. (Continued on page 3) Don t pull the shade come to high school youth group! Don t know what that means? I didn t either (Continued on page 3) There is a process to giving the perfect gift; the shopping, the wrapping, the giving. With Christmas just around the corner we can get so focused on getting the perfect gift for each person on our list. But have you ever paused to think about the gifts that God has given for you? (Continued on page 6)

2 Page 2 Little Lambs Maggie Bruns, Director/Teacher Merry Christmas! Thank You!! Thank you to everyone who came to the preschool brunch and watched the preschoolers sing in church. We appreciate everyone s support of our program. A special thanks to the Committee for their help with preparing the brunch. I cannot believe we are almost done with half of the school year! We have been busy in November learning about communities. We read about what businesses and jobs you can find in a community. We also were able to go to Kessler s grocery store and the kids had a blast! November also brought us Thanksgiving. The children had a great time making turkeys out of their handprints and learning about what we are thankful for. We will begin December celebrating the holiday season and practicing our songs for our Christmas program coming up right before Christmas break! Receipts and Labels We are still collecting! Every little bit helps and we appreciate all who turn them in! Receipts can be collected from Kessler s or Ken s and must be dated during the current school year September 1, 2015 through May 31, Receipts and labels for education can be placed in the containers located on the table in the Fellowship Hall. Check out the list of eligible products that qualify for the Labels for Education program located near the bins in the fellowship hall. These UPC labels are not just found on Campbell s soups!! Certain stationary items, magazines, juice, cereals, and snacks all Christmas Program Come watch all three preschool classes sing some Christmas songs on Thursday, December 17th at 6:30 pm in the Sanctuary. We will have apple cider and cookies following the program.

3 Spark Rotation Curriculum Youth page Page 3 The new Spark Rotation curriculum for Sunday and Wednesday School has hit the ground running and the students are enjoying the change of pace. In September a new curriculum was introduced to the Sunday and Wednesday school kids. I like that they changed the activities, said Austin Jenkins, a 4 th grader. The curriculum allows the students to participate in different activities that teach them about Bible stories. The Rotation activities include Art, Cooking, Creative Drama, Bible Games, Science and Video. Overall the students have said they enjoy the cooking, art, and video activities the most. Mari Odland, a 5 th grader and Kaitlyn Dunlavy, a 4 th grader, both said their favorite activity so far has been cooking with Mr. and Mrs. Donat. During that rotation activity the kids were able to make apple turnovers while they learned about The First Sin. Elletta Sharisky, a 5 th grader, said her favorite activity has been a rotation led by Wade Douglas when they played Mind Games while they learned the story about Joseph and His Brothers. Overall the new curriculum has been a hit with the students who look forward to a new activity each week. What s next? Rotation Leaders are needed for two consecutive weeks to lead activities in the upcoming months. If you are interested in seeing what the excitement is all about, please contact Amanda Black or Pastor Liz to sign up to be a Rotation Leader. What s next? This summer the high school youth will be partnering with Youth Works to do a week of service in St. Paul, Minnesota. They will see a side of the city not many get to see. They will be working at places like the Dorothy Day Center, Children s programs, and food banks. All youth who will have completed 8 th grade through those who will have completed 12 th grade are eligible to come on this trip. Want to sign up? Questions? Please talk to Pastor Liz or liz@goodshepherdaberdeen.org I am constantly learning new vocabulary at high school youth group. 6 New Sermon Series Given for You The greatest and most perfect gifts we ever receive are from God. Throughout the next seven weeks in worship we are going to be looking at these gifts, these promises that God has given to us. Join us at the manger as we gaze into the eyes of the baby Jesus given for you. Join us as we gather around the table to taste and see the body and blood of Jesus given for you. Join with us as we open these gifts that are given for you. For: You Love: God LIBRARY NEWS The annual inventory has been taken and many books and videos were discarded because they were never checked out or had not been checked out for several years. A few of the special videos that pertain to the holidays, etc. were kept. They are on the top shelf and the DVD s are on a shelf below them. The discarded items were offered free to the congregation for three weeks and then to the food pantry. Most of the items were taken. The books for Teens, Middle Grade and Children have been moved to the shelves where the videos used to be. It was felt that this area would be more accessible to children. Approximately 130 books were donated to the church library this past year. We want to thank everyone who donated books. They are appreciated. Remember to put your name on any book that you donate. That way if it is a duplicate we can return it to you. Thank you Page 6 Thank You for the concern, cards, phone calls and prayers since the accident. Falling off a grain bin was certainly not in our plans but we feel truly blessed to have been lifted up by so many. We are very thankful for the positive healing that continues to take place. It s been a lesson in patience and are learning that the ankles are like the South Dakota weather. Just wait 5 minutes and things will change! A special word of Thanks to Pastor Tim and Pastor Liz for the visits, thoughtfulness and words of encouragement. We have once again been touched by the power of prayer. May God Bless you all for your kindness. Evan Wahl Monte, Tammy and Jayden Wahl **************************************** Thank you to everyone that sent a card for my 90th birthday. Also, thanks to Good Shepherd for the birthday party and gifts and all who signed the birthday card. God Bless All, Leo Haar MISSION OF THE MONTH The Mission of the Month offering is received on the 2nd and 4th Sunday and Wednesday with our Noisy Offering by passing the bread pans. In November, $ was donated to the Journey Home. **************************************** Thank you to everyone who participated in our new family directory by having their portraits taken when Lifetouch was at Good Shepherd. Also thank you to everyone that assisted by being a host during portraits. Everyone s participation was very much appreciated. We are working diligently on the new photo directory layout and as long as things go as planned; the new directories should be at Good Shepherd by the end of April Check out some of the silly pictures that Good Vibrations and Hallelujah Chorus took after their nice group picture. Help us to pay for the people and resources that enrich our lives through music, fellowship, service, learning, and expressions of love. Thank you for your faithful generosity. When we look back at 2015 I realize how deeply blessed we ve been. The gift of music continues to inspire us and move us to joy. What a gift our choirs are! We have experienced joy from children s as well as adult choirs. We have had our hearts warmed through skillful playing of organ, piano, and keyboard. Music has been shared by individuals and by groups. We have witnessed our youth sharing their faith and demonstrating love and service in Aberdeen and beyond to Detroit. We have shared food together and conversation over cups of coffee. People have gathered together to find hope and comfort in times of grief and joyfully looking toward the future as people begin new life in marriage. Youth have grown in faith and closer to adults through our Wednesday and Sunday school programs. What comes next? On Sunday, January 17, we will gather together at 12:30pm for our congregational meeting to elect people to boards and council and to consider a budget to support our dreams for A spud feed will be served beginning at 11:45. Then, two weeks later, our new boards will gather to map out the year in love, learning, and service in our board retreat. For 2016 we have initial responses back from Consecration Sunday that indicate a 5.2% increase in giving. Thank you for your faithfulness, passion, and enthusiasm.
