Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord would bestow his spirit on them all. Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward. A reading from the Book of Numbers On the day of our baptism, when we were anointed with the Holy Chrism we were told that we participate with Jesus as - priest, prophet and king. A prophet is a spokesperson for God. We read from the Major Prophets in the Old Testament, and know the teaching of the minor ones, as Micah, Amos, Hosea and others. Some say the age of prophets ended at the close of the first testament. No, that is not true. Because we too are called to witness to Christ, we too are spokespersons for the Lord, His prophets today. We speak as witnesses by our actions. We speak as teachers of His word. We bring the call to conversion to a needy world. We find the witness of prophets in Saint Archbishop Oscar Romero, Blessed Stanley Rother and the religious martyrs of El Salvador. They are the prophetic voices, calling out for justice, an end to oppression, as agents for peace. Would that the Lord would bestow He has, now it is our turn..his WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. 4 Baby Bottle Drive In honor of St. Gerard, we are having a Baby Drive to help the needy. A donation can be made in memory of a loved one or for a special intention that will be remembered at the 10:30 AM Mass on Sunday, Oct. 14th. Please return your bottle with your donation and intention by Oct. 7th. The Novena to St. Gerard will start on Oct. 7th to Oct. 15th Two baptisms took place on Saturday, Sept. 22nd. Msgr. Mark Giordani celebrated the baptism of Anthony DeChellis at 12 Noon and Fr. Leo Antony baptised Evieanna Ayuso at 1:00 pm. The Sacrament of Marriage Angelina Manzi and Robert Martino received the Sacrament of Marriage on Saturday, Sept. 22nd. The ceremony was performed by Msgr. George Hundt. PARISH PICNIC Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to our Parish Picnic at St. Joseph s Center. And a very special thank you to the cooks and servers.

5 GERARD RI 4th Annual Fallen Firefighters Red Mass ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI FEAST DAY Thursday, October 4th Pet Blessings at 2:30 PM in the school playground The Diocese of Paterson will be celebrating the 4th Firefighters Red Mass, honoring firefighters killed in the line of duty in the counties of Passaic, Sussex and Morris at St. Gerard s Church on Tuesday, October 9th at 10:00 AM. The Most Rev. Arthur Serratelli, Bishop of Paterson, will be the main celebrant. There will be no Mass that day.
