FELLOWSHIP PRAYER GROUP Fellowship Prayer Group meets every Wednesday from 7:00-8:00 P.M. in the Daily Chapel. SACRAMENTAL LIFE Reconciliation: Celebrated on Saturday from 4:00-5:00P.M., or by appointment with the priest; Parish Penance Services are celebrated during Advent and Lent. Anointing of the Sick: The sacrament of the healing is available at any time to all who are seriously ill, hospitalized or preparing for surgery, as well as those of advanced age. Please contact the parish office to make arrangements for the priest to administer the sacrament. If it is an emergency, please call Ext 14. Parish Registration: Is requested of all individual persons and families who worship regularly with us on Sundays and who intend to participate in the life of our parish with their time, talents, and treasures. For more information, call Deacon John at Ext 12. Registration is necessary as well as for the issuing of sponsor certificates. Matrimony: Contact the parish office at least 6 months before the prospective date. Baptism: Baptism Preparation Class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:30PM in the church. Baptisms are held on Saturday at 12:00Noon and Sunday at 2:00PM. Call the parish office to register for class and to schedule Baptism.

Be assured that your gift to the Bishop s Annual Appeal supports four causes: our Catholic Charities agencies, seminarian education, our inner-city area elementary schools and our priests retirement residence. PASTOR S CORNER Hello my dear friends of Saint Jude, In order to continue the preparation for the year of Mercy that will start on December 8 th, with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, today I would like to reflect with all of you about FORGIVENESS. Mercy, peace and reconciliation are opposed to war and hatred. Unfortunately there are many wars, destruction, hatred and enmity that we see and read about every day on TV and in the newspapers. There are also many men and women who work hard -- really hard in order to manufacture lethal weapons, arms that eventually become bathed in the blood of so many innocent people, so many of them. There are wars (being waged)! There are these wars and there is also that wickedness of preparing for war, of making weapons (to be used) against other people in order to kill! Peace saves us, peace makes you live, it makes you grow: war annihilates you, it drags you down. A person who can t forgive is not a Christian I want to warn you that wars can take other forms, saying they exist within our Christian communities, between us. The key word in Christian Faith is about forgiveness and we need to make peace among ourselves. If you can t forgive, you are not a Christian. You may be a good man, a good woman. but you are not doing what our Lord did. What s more, if you can t forgive, you cannot receive the peace of the Lord. And every day when we pray the Our Father: Forgive us as we have forgiven those...it s a condition. We are trying to convince God that we re good, that we re good by forgiving: in reverse. (It s just) words, right? As that beautiful song went: Words, words, words, wasn t it?. Forgive one another! Just as the Lord has forgiven us, do likewise. There are people who speak badly about others and make war that way. It is important to understand other people, not condemn them. Finally, I urge you to show feelings of kindness, goodness and humility, saying this is the Christian style, rather than being arrogant or condemning or speaking badly about others. May the Lord, give all of us the grace to provide support to others, to forgive and be merciful, just as our Lord is merciful towards us. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. 3 FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS by Rev. William J. Reilly The Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Taking some of the spirit that was on him, he bestowed it on seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow his spirit on them all. During this year in the scriptures, we have met one, Peter, then three, James and John with him, the Twelve, and now seventy plus two. The Lord s choices are recognized and responsibilities or tasks given in a special way. The life of the church in its many facets of proclaiming the gospel requires the gifts and talents of countless persons. All are summoned to make the Good News present and Jesus Christ visible in our world. In the past we presumed that everything was taken care of by priests and religious. Later we were taught about the lay apostolate the Legion of Mary or the Sodality. Today, as John Paul has taught us, the mission of Christ the Redeemer is far from completion, and all are responsible for this noble endeavor. The Spirit of God was taken from Moses and bestowed on the seventy. The Spirit of Jesus was given those gathered in the upper room at Pentecost. The same Spirit was given to us at baptism and confirmation. At this time of the year when we begin religious education classes, RCIA programs, and the life of a parish revs up after summer, ask yourself how the Spirit of God is working through you. Moses response in the book of Numbers speaks to us today. TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Genesis 2:18-24 God created many different animals in an attempt to make a suitable partner for the first man. Then he took a rib from the man as he slept and built it up into a woman. At last God had created someone who equaled the man, as she was bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh and they proved to be suitable partners for each other. Second Reading: Hebrews 2:9-11 This passage describes how Jesus will become perfect through his suffering. It also reminds us that Jesus Father is our Father as well, making him unashamed to call us his brothers and sisters. Gospel: Mark 10:2-16 The people began to ask Jesus if it was acceptable for a man to divorce his wife. Jesus tells them that two people who have been joined together by God should not be separated. People began bringing their children to Jesus, but the disciples tried to send them away. Jesus grew angry and told his disciples to allow the children to come to him. FIRE FIGHTERS MEMORIAL MASS On Thursday, October 8, we will celebrate our First Firefighters' Memorial Mass at St. Gerard Majella Parish in Paterson at 10:00 AM. Our men and women serve selflessly to foster the safety of our communities.
