Homecoming Thanks! Homecoming Sunday last week was a lovely event and the Parish Life Committee would like to thank all those who helped out in any way to make this happen. That s outreach in action! The following is the Fall/Winter Service Schedule which begins today, Sunday, September 29, 2013: Matins: 7.30 a.m. Holy Eucharist: 8:00 a.m. Church School: 10:15 a.m. Sung Eucharist: 10:30 a.m. Evensong: 6:00 p.m. Fundscrip Progress Report Fundscrip, as of September 22, has earned $1, for our parish. All Fundscrip orders and cheques, which are to be made out to St. Peter s Cathedral Fundscrip, should be given to the Sidesperson at the main door for both the 8am and 10:30 am services. The orders will be picked up following both services and ordered Sunday afternoon. Mens Group Meeting A meeting of the Cathedral Mens Group is scheduled for Thursday, October 3rd, 5:30pm at Papa Joe s Restaurant. We will be discussing upcoming fund raising events. All men of the parish are invited to attend. We need your support, so please try to attend. Mike Smitherman for your Mens Group Executive Sacristy Security Entry System By now all folk who work in the Sacristy have used the new security entry system. The code must now be punched in. Make sure that you press the key with the lock symbol when you leave. It will make a noise! If you forget the code, check with Anne Chisholm, José or Tony. We welcome all visitors with us today and invite you to join us for Coffee & Tea in the Cathedral Hall following the 10:30 a.m. service. Parish Financials Update As of Sept 22 we were more than $9000 behind in Envelope Offerings for regular operations compared to the same date in Many parishioners have been 'catching up' with their contributions following the summer holidays etc., and I would ask all Parishioners to examine their records and help us meet our crucial $171,000 target for With our accumulated debt at over $210,000, we cannot afford to run a deficit in Please help where you can. As of Sept 22 we were also over $9000 behind last year in contributions to Building in Faith. While our beautiful Cathedral Hall has been in place for several years, the bills are not yet paid! Our bank loan that was originally $325,000 now stands at $40,044 and will be paid out in mid That's very good news! But to do that, and finance the necessary brick repointing on the Cathedral east wall, we need to raise $50,000 from Building in Faith in 2013 and in Currently we are under $26,000 for the year to date. Please consider adding a 'Building in Faith' regular contribution in your Envelope if you aren't contributing now, or make an increased contribution where you can. Parishioners are reminded of our Automatic Debit Plan, a convenient way to assure that your financial donation to the Parish is there every week, whether you are or not! Rory Francis, Finance Warden A special new tree has been planted Parishioners may have noticed that a healthy new tree has been planted on the front lawn of the Cathedral. The tree, a ginkgo biloba, was generously and thoughtfully donated to the Cathedral by one of our parishioners. The ginkgo biloba, also known as the maidenhair tree, is a remarkable tree that is often referred to as a living fossil because it is the sole survivor of an ancient group of trees that date back to and beyond the time of the dinosaurs. They can be extremely long-lived with some of them living over 2,500 years. Traditionally, they were planted in temple gardens in China and Japan, but today they can be found around the world. The ginkgo biloba tree has a long history of cultural importance in Asia. Confucius was said to have taught his students while sitting under a ginkgo tree. For centuries the ginkgo tree has been a source of food and medicine in Asia. Today, every health food store and pharmacy in the western world sells extracts derived from ginkgo biloba leaves. This is a gift that will be part of life at St. Peter s for many generations to come.

4 The Upper Room Hospitality Ministry On the third Sunday of each month, parishioners of St. Peter s are asked to support the Charlottetown and area Food Bank in the spirit of helping those with the most basic of human needs. Each month we will focus on a specific product/item as determined by the Food Bank. For the month of September, St. Peter s donated 66 cans of stew and chunky soup to the Charlottetown and Area Food Bank to help feed families in need. Thank you to all who made this possible. The item for October is crackers; for November it is apple/orange juice and for December the item is rice. Guest Recital Notice The UPEI Music Department Recital Series is pleased to present the following recital which will take place in the Dr Steel Recital Hall, UPEI Campus. Admission $15 adults $10 students and seniors. Saturday, Oct 5, 7:30pm. A UPEI Alumnus Returns featuring Nathan Keoughan, bass baritone, Francis McBurnie, piano. Additions To St. Peter s Archive Collection Welcomed Photographs are a wonderful way to connect with the past and here at St. Peter s we can connect with the Cathedral s past through our own collection of photographs. The collection has been catalogued and put into binders by the unstinting efforts of Marjorie Vessey and Anna Lee Hogan. These photographs all relate in some way to the ongoing history of our church. We would like to see the collection grow so... don t throw out your old photos, snapshots or papers! If you have any photographs or documents/papers that relate to the history of St. Peter s and would like to donate them to the Cathedral s collection, please contact Michael Smitherman or Ivan MacKenzie. Care of the Kneelers Please assist our Sexton at the end of each service by picking up your kneeling cushion and placing it on the pew. St Peter s Cathedral Flower Guild Our Flower Guild Team is headed by Betty Robertson. Anyone wishing to have memorial flowers placed on the Altar or in the Church is asked to please call Betty at Save your Stamps Save your stamps for the Canadian Bible Society. A box is available on the table at the back of the church to accept stamps or they can be dropped off at the church office. PROPERS FOR ST.
