Letter from Msgr. Gilles Wach - Dear Friends of the Institute of Christ the King, It is with deepest gratitude and profound appreciation for your friendship that I thank you for your warm welcome during my visit. The ever growing numbers of faithful in your apostolate, the many families, young people and children, the beautiful music and liturgy, as well as the dedicated work of so many volunteers who provide constant assistance to our dear Canons, have all deeply touched my heart. Thank you for your faithfulness and charity! Also, I was very glad to visit with many of you personally, to bless your families and to see your joy and appreciation of the Liturgy. Let me thank you particularly for the elegant reception and fine food with which you thoughtfully honored the presence of the Prior General of the Institute of Christ the King. I am indeed very grateful for your continual support of the many vocations with which God has blessed the Institute of Christ the King both in our expanding seminary and convent. You have been very generous in the spring collections for the seminarians and Sisters Adorers. May God reward you for your sacrifices on behalf of His Church and of our Institute. Please be assured of my daily prayers for your intentions especially during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Thanking you again for all you do to foster the growth and welfare of our apostolate, I remain, Yours very cordially in Christ the King, Msgr. Gilles Wach Prior General

7TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST INTROIT Psalm 46, 2 Omnes gentes, pláudite manibús: iubiláte Deo in voce exsultatiónis. Ps Quóniam Dóminus excélsus, terríbilis: Rex magnus super omnem terram.. Glória Patri. Omnes gentes... Quem ergo fructum habuístis tunc in illis, in quibus nunc erubéscitis? Nam finis illòrum mors est. Nunc vero liberáti a peccáto, servi autem facti Deo, habétis fructum vestrum in sanctificatiónem, finem vero vitam ætérnam. Stipéndia enim peccáti, mors. Grátia autem Dei, vita ætérna, in Christo Iesu Dómino nostro. Clap your hands, all ye nations: shout unto God with the voice of joy. Ps For the Lord is most high, He is terrible; He is a great King over all the earth.. Glory be to the Father. Clap your hands... O God, whose providence in the ordering of all things never fails: we humbly beseech Thee to put away from us all harmful things, and to give us those which are profitable for us. Through our Lord. GRADUAL Psalm 33, 12 & 6 Veníte, fílii, audíte me: timórem Dómini docébo vos.. Ps Omnes gentes, pláudite mánibus: iubiláte Deo in voce exsultatiónis. Allelúia. Brethren: I speak in a human way because of the weakness of your flesh: for as you yielded your members as slaves of uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, so now yield your members as slaves of justice unto sanctification. For when you were the slaves of sin, you were free as regards justice. But what fruit had you then from those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of these things is death. But now set free from sin and become slaves to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and as your end, life everlasting. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is life everlasting in Christ Jesus our Lord. Come children, hearken to me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.. Come ye to Him and be enlightened; and your faces shall not be confounded. Alleluia, alleluia.. Ps O clap your hands, all ye nations; shout unto God with the voice of joy. Alleluia. 2
At that time: Jesus said to his disciples: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father in heaven shall enter the kingdom of heaven. As in holocausts of rams and bullocks, and as in thousands of fat lambs; so let our sacrifice be made in Thy sight this day, that it may please Thee: for there is no confusion to them that trust in Thee, O Lord. O God who, in this one sacrifice, hast perfected the offering of the many victims prescribed under the Old Law: receive this same sacrifice offered by Thy devoted servants and sanctify it with a blessing, like unto that which Thou didst bestow upon the offerings of Abel; so that what each has offered here to the glory of Thy name, may profit all unto salvation. Through our Lord... COMMUNION Psalm 30, 3 Inclína aurem tuam, accélera, ut erípias me. Bow down Thy ear, make haste to deliver me. May Thy healing work in our souls mercifully free us from our perverse inclinations O Lord, and lead us ever to do that which is right in Thy sight. Through our Lord... 3
Special Prayer Requests PRAYER TO THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD O Lord Jesus Christ, who descended from heaven to earth from the bosom of the Father, and didst shed Thy Precious Blood for the remission of our sins: we humbly beseech Thee, that in the day of judgment we may deserve to hear, standing at Thy right hand: "Come, ye blessed." Who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen. Please pray for the repose of the souls of Don Deister, Gerard Burns (son of Betty Burns) and Daniel Ziglinski. Please pray for the health of Walter Carter, Don Boos, John Clayton, Michael John Valencia (brother of Mark Valencia), Ray Yingling, Gregory Lindersmith, Ben Wearing, Elroy Balke, Lisa Shikles, John Reyna, and Leo Nixon (father of Nancy Larrick). ANNOUNCEMENTS VISITING SEMINARIAN During the summer months, Msgr. Wach sends seminarians to different apostolates of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. This gives an opportunity for them to become acquainted with the different apostolates and the faithful and to have them deepen their formation as your future priests. This July, Abbé Edward Gardner will be doing his apostolate work here in Kansas City. He is a native of Michigan and has completed his second year of studies at the Institute s seminary in Gricigliano, Italy. This apostolate work during the summer months is an opportunity for seminarians to deepen their priestly formation and to help priests in their various endeavors. On the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, he was ordained porter and lector by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Athanasius Schneider, auxiliary bishop of Karaganda, Kazakhstan and author of the book Dominus Est concerning the reception of Holy Communion kneeling and on the tongue. Please pray for Abbé Gardner as he approaches ever further the altar of God. INTRODUCTION TO THE DEVOUT LIFE BY SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES Part III, Chapter 27 Unseemly Words, and the Respect Due to Others Saint James says, "If any man offend not in word, the same is, a perfect man." Beware most watchfully against ever uttering any unseemly expression; even though you may have no evil intention, those who hear it may receive it with a different meaning. An impure word falling upon a weak mind spreads its infection like a drop of oil on a garment, and sometimes it will take such a hold of the heart, as to fill it with an infinity of lascivious thoughts and temptations. The body is poisoned through the mouth, even so is the heart through the ear; and the tongue which does the deed is a murderer, even when the venom it has infused is counteracted by some antidote preoccupying the listener's heart. It was not the speaker's fault that he did not slay that soul. Nor let any one answer that he meant no harm. Our Lord, Who knoweth the hearts of men, has said, "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." And even if we do mean no harm, the Evil One means a great deal, and he will use those idle words as a sharp weapon against some neighbor's heart. It is said that those who eat the plant called Angelica always have a sweet, pleasant breath; and those who cherish the angelic virtues of purity and modesty, will always speak simply, courteously, and modestly. As to unclean and light-minded talk, Saint Paul says such things should not even be named among us, for, as he elsewhere tells us, "Evil communications corrupt good manners." 5
Those impure words which are spoken in disguise, and with an affectation of reserve, are the most harmful of all; for just as the sharper the point of a dart, so much deeper it will pierce the flesh, so the sharper an unholy word, the more it penetrates the heart. And as for those who think to show themselves knowing when they say such things, they do not even understand the first object of mutual interaction among men, who ought rather to be like a hive of bees gathering to make honey by good and useful conversation, than like a wasps' nest, feeding on corruption. If any impertinent person addresses you in unseemly language, show that you are displeased by turning away, or by whatever other method your discretion may indicate. One of the most evil dispositions possible is that which satirizes and turns everything to ridicule. God abhors this vice, and has sometimes punished it in a marked manner. Nothing is so opposed to charity, much more to a devout spirit, as contempt and depreciation of one's neighbor, and where satire and ridicule exist contempt must be. Therefore contempt is a grievous sin, and our spiritual doctors have well said that ridicule is the greatest sin we can commit in word against our neighbor, inasmuch as when we offend him in any other way, there may still be some respect for him in our heart, but we are sure to despise those whom we ridicule. There is a light-hearted talk, full of modest life and gaiety, which the Greeks called Eutrapelia, and which we should call good conversation, by which we may find an innocent and kindly amusement out of the trifling occurrences which human imperfections afford. Only beware of letting this seemly mirth go too far, till it becomes ridicule. Ridicule excites mirth at the expense of one's neighbor; seemly mirth and playful fun never lose sight of a trustful, kindly courtesy, which can wound no one. When the religious around him would fain have discussed serious matters with Saint Louis at meal-times, he used to say, "This is not the time for grave discussion, but for general conversation and cheerful recreation,"--out of consideration for his courtiers. But, my child, let our recreation always be so spent, that we may win all eternity through devotion. Numbers to Remember The Seven Deadly Sins Saint Gregory the Great calls these sins the seven fountainheads from which all sin proceeds. Here is a list of the Seven Deadly Sins along with their opposing virtues. Pride - Humility Covetousness - Generosity Envy - Brotherly love Anger - Meekness Lust - Chastity Gluttony - Temperance Sloth Diligence See the Catechism of the Catholic Church: To contact Canon Avis: 2997 Oak Street, Apt. #104 Kansas City, MO oldstpatrick@institute-christ-king.org WANT TO REGISTER?
