2 ENTRANCE HYMN He who would valiant be gainst all disaster, Let him in constancy follow the Master. There s no discouragement shall make him once relent His first avowed intent to be a pilgrim. Who so beset him round with dismal stories Do but themselves confound - his strength the more is. No foes shall stay his might; though he with giants fight, He will make good his right to be a pilgrim. Since, Lord, Thou dost defend us with Thy Spirit, We know we at the end, shall life inherit. Then fancies flee away! I ll fear not what men say, I ll labor night and day to be a pilgrim. INTRODUCTORY RITES LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING Book of Wisdom 3; 1-6, 9 The souls of the virtuous are in the hands of God, no torment shall ever touch them. In the eyes of the unwise, they did appear to die, their going looked like a disaster, their leaving us, like annihilation;but they are in peace. If they experienced punishment as men see it, their hope was rich with immortality; slight their affliction, great will their blessings be. God has put them to the test and proved them worthy to be with them; he has tested them like gold in a furnace, and accepted them as a holocaust. They who trust in him will understand the truth, those who are faithful will live with him in love; for grace and mercy await those he has chosen. RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps 120 R; Our help is from the Lord who made heaven and earth. I lift my eyes to the mountains: from where shall come my help? My help shall come from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

3 May he never allow you to stumble! let him sleep not, your guard. No, he sleeps not nor slumbers, the watchman of Israel. The Lord is your guard and your shade; at your right side he stands. By day the sun shall not smite you nor the moon in the night. The Lord will guard you from evil, he will guard your soul. The Lord will guard your going and coming both now and for ever. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, Alleluia! I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and mine know me. Alleluia! GOSPEL John Chapter 21: verses When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these? He said to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you. He said to him, Feed my lambs. A second time he said to him, Simon, son of John, do you love me? He said to him, Tend my sheep. He said to him a third time, Simon, son of John, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he said to him a third time, Do you love me? and he said to him. Lord you know everything; you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, :Feed my sheep. HOMILY OFFERTORY HYMN Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; you are mine. When you walk through the waters, I'll be with you; you will never sink beneath the waves. When the fire is burning all around you, you will never be consumed by the flames.

4 When the fear of loneliness is looming, then remember I am at your side. When you dwell in the exile of a stranger, remember you are precious in my eyes. You are mine, O my child, I am your Father, and I love you with a perfect love. OUR FATHER Pater Noster Pater Noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da hobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen. COMMUNION HYMN Godhead here in hiding, whom I do adore, masked by these bare shadows, shape and nothing more, see, Lord, at thy service low lies here a heart lost, all lost in wonder at the God thou art. Seeing, touching, tasting are in thee deceived: how says trusty hearing? That shall be believed; what God's Son has told me, take for truth I do; truth himself speaks truly or there's nothing true. On the cross thy godhead made no sign to men, here thy very manhood steals from human ken: both are my confession, both are my belief, and I pray the prayer of the dying thief. I am not like Thomas, wounds I cannot see, but can plainly call thee Lord and God as he; each day this faith deeper be my holding of, daily make me harder hope and dearer love.

5 O thou our reminder of Christ crucified, living Bread, the life of us for whom he died, lend this life to me then: feed and feast my mind, here be thou the sweetness man was meant to find. Jesu, whom I look at shrouded here below, I beseech thee send me what I thirst for so, some day to gaze on thee face to face in light And be blest for ever with thy glory's sight. THE CONCLUDING RITE RECESSIONAL HYMN O Jesus Christ remember when thou shalt come again, upon the clouds of heaven with all thy shinning train, when every eye shall see thee in deity reveal d, who now upon this altar in silence art concealed. Remember then O saviour, I supplicate of thee, that here I bow d before thee upon my bended knee, that here I owned thy presence and did not thee deny, and glorified thy greatness though hid from human eye. Accept, divine redeemer the homage of my praise, be thou the light and honour and glory of my days, be thou my consolidation when death is drawing nigh, be thou my only treasure through all eternity.

6 Liturgy for the Masses for Fr Basil The choice of readings and hymns for this Requiem Mass have been chosen to reflect Fr Basil s life as priest, monk and pilgrim. Some were used at his ordination, some relevant to his Ampleforth life, some taken from the booklet he put together for his last Camino and others are ones he loved and used in his prayer life. Some will reflect on what he did to enrich our prayer life with homilies, monthly Holy Hours and Taize meditations. Every effort has been made to include as many people as possible in particular roles from each of our three churches in particular roles. As souls who have been touched by Fr Basil, we come together to pray for him as he journeys from his Camino to his final resting place with his parents. Whether we guide people to their seats, read, serve, make refreshments or pray, we will have paid equal respect to our Parish Priest.
