2 MORNING WORSHIP - OCTOBER 16, 2011 The service of worship begins with the music of the organ preludes. Preludes Prelude Prelude on a theme of Parry Everett Titcomb Charles Villiers Stanford Processional Hymn 42 Holy, holy, holy (Nicaea) Call to Worship The Rev. Cheryle Hanna Introit Fight the good fight John Gardner Fight the good fight with all thy might, Christ is thy strength and Christ thy right. Lay hold on life and it shall be thy joy and crown eternally. Run the straight race through God s good grace. Lift up thine eyes and seek his face. Life with its way before us lies; Christ is the path and Christ the prize. Cast care aside, lean on thy guide; His boundless mercy will provide. Trust, and thy trusting soul shall prove Christ is its life and Christ its love. Faint not, nor fear, his arms are near; He changeth not, and thou art dear. Only believe and thou shalt see that Christ is all in all to thee. Invocation and Lord s Prayer The Rev. Cheryle Hanna Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. (sung Amen) Responsive Psalm 99 (OT p ) The Rev. 3 Anthem - My soul, there is a country C.H.H.Parry My soul, there is a country far beyond the stars, Where stands a winged sentry, all skillful in the wars; There, above noise and danger, sweet peace sits crowned with smiles, And One, born in a manger, commands the beauteous files, He is thy gracious friend and O my soul awake! Did in pure love descend to die here for thy sake. If thou canst get but thither, there grows the flow'r of peace, The Rose that cannot whither, thy fortress and thy ease, Leave then thy foolish ranges, for none can thee secure, But One who never changes, thy God, thy life, thy cure. YP GALLERY to October 27. Landmarks by Anthony J. Batten. The artist is well known for his paintings of our man-made environment --- the streets and buildings that populate and enliven our city surroundings. Landmarks is a show inspired by frequent travels in Europe, the USA and throughout Canada. In addition there are some paintings of landscape features that have been interpreted by Batten as iconic landmarks in themselves. Visitors to this show will be rewarded with a sampling of the artist's positive view of our world and of mankind's ability, on occasion, to create unique corners of beauty and interest 11
