3 MEMORIAL FLOWERS The flowers today are dedicated to the glory of God and placed in loving memory of CAROL-ANN DUTHIE MACDONALD by Don and family. Today s Window on the World introduces the members of our Short Term Mission team. The team will be travelling to Lebanon in July to assist with the children's camp as part of the work of our STEP partnership with the Lebanese Society for the Education and Social Development in Beirut, Lebanon. Following the service, the team will provide further information about their work in Lebanon, at a presentation in the Friendship Room at 12:15. All are welcome. We need your support first to PRAY and secondly, to support the team financially. Watch for the Short Term Mission bake sale on March 4th after the service. Karen Robinson in the chancel this morning. Karen is also working on a Doctor of Ministry degree at Acadia Divinity College in Wolfville, N.S. *** The Rev Cheryle Hanna is on a week of vacation and will be returning on Tuesday evening in time for the Pastor s Pancake Supper. The Rev. John Torrance is worshipping today in his home church in Newmarket. Our Parish Nurse, Heather Hetherington is also on vacation today and through next Sunday. This exhibition is a selection of works by the artist at play. These Photo-Graphics and playful recreations encourage the viewer to also join the imaginative play that such images generate. Since images tell stories Regehr has chosen to see these images as representing creation stories from various peoples and cultures. Representing the high drama of our universe, you may join him in seeing galaxies, super-novas, black holes and even the Big Bang, or bursting atoms and delicate flowers: creation continually at work. Such narratives both illuminate and enliven the graphics while the graphics, in turn, enliven the stories. Since creation stories/mythologies are, by definition, those stories which a culture accepts as both true and foundational to human identity, these images are meant to direct our thoughts, and to enlarge our understanding of, our own creation stories. 13 DISCIPLESHIP Call Him Saviour: A Lenten Bible Study Based on the Revised Common Lectionary Weekly Gatherings February 22 through April 7, 2012 Lent is a time of spiritual reflection and growth. As a church community we will gather in groups of eight to ten in our homes, church, coffee shops, libraries or office cafeterias to encourage that reflection. The time we spend studying the word of God is one of the many ways we may respond to God s love for us, not out of obligation but in gratitude. The study should not exceed 45 minutes and will involve the entire group, facilitated by a leader and a host or hostess. A donation of $9.00 per book is requested. A good place to begin this time is with personal and corporate repentance. Fasting is one way to express our repentance for sin and fasting also prepares us inwardly to receive the necessary strength and grace to complete a mission of faithful service to God. We will begin our corporate fast after the Pastors Pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday and end the fast at your evening meal on Ash Wednesday. 14 CHILDREN S MINISTRIES This week in Children s Ministries This week our children will be learning about... First Look The monthly theme for February is LOVE and the memory verse is: Love... God, with all your heart. Matthew 22:37. And how do we love God with our all our hearts? We look to Jesus to teach us. This week the scripture is taken from Matthew 22:34-40 and Acts 9:1-30; the second commandment, Jesus taught us to love everyone. The bottom line that we want to impress on our preschoolers is: LOVE GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART. 252 BASICS The monthly theme is Honour ; Letting others know you see how valuable they really are. The memory verse is Love each other deeply. Honour others more than yourselves, Romans 12:10, NIrV. This week s scripture lesson is taken from II Samuel 15:1-16a & 18: 5-7, 15, 31-33, the story is about Absalom s rebellion against King David. The basic truth is I should treat others the way I want to be treated. This week the bottom line that we want to impress on our Grades 1 to 5 kids is: HONOUR THOSE WHO ARE OVER YOU *** NEXT WEEK, FEBRUARY 26 TH Join us for a soup lunch at the church before heading to Sherbourne Commons Arena at 61 Dockside Drive for skating. This year s theme, Let Justice Prevail was written by the women of Malaysia. Yorkminster Park is the Churches-on-the-Hill location so join us in solidarity and prayer here in the Sanctuary at 1:30pm on Friday, March 2, 2012 with a reception to follow.
