Pastoral Council Faith Sharing Sessions 7th Sunday of Easter through the 13 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Office of Pastoral Planning, Diocese of Rochester

Courage in the Spirit 7 th Sunday of Easter May 24, 2009 Prayer at the Beginning of the Meeting Invitation to Prayer Let us sit in silence. Become aware of the Spirit of God within you. Scripture Reading: 1 John 4: Become aware of the Spirit among you. Become aware of the Spirit in all of creation. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us. This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit. Moreover, we have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as savior of the world. Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God. We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Silent Reflection Questions for Faith Sharing 1. When and how do we recognize the Spirit working among us and in us? 2. Which part of this Scripture passage gives you particular comfort or challenge?

Prayer at the End of the Meeting Intercessory Prayers As people of the resurrection, we pray for our needs and the needs of the world That we may give thanks for our life in Jesus the Christ Risen Lord, hear our prayer. That we may call upon the Spirit for wisdom and courage Risen Lord, hear our prayer. That our community may witness to the indwelling Spirit Risen Lord, hear our prayer. For what else do we pray (When all are finished offering prayers) For these prayers and all those we hold deep in our hearts. Risen Lord, hear our prayer. Closing Prayer May the peace of the risen Christ fill our hearts and may we share that peace with one another. Amen. Alleluia

Come, Holy Spirit Pentecost Sunday May 31, 2009 Prayer at the Beginning of the Meeting Invitation to Prayer Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth. Alleluia! Scripture Reading: Acts 2: 1-4 When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Silent Reflection Questions for Faith Sharing 1. What gift(s) of the Holy Spirit do you share with the community? 2. Are we mindful of the Spirit in our brothers and sisters? How, when?

Prayer at the End of the Meeting Intercessory Prayers During this great feast let us pray for one another Spirit of God, fill us with love. For the suffering in our community, let us reach out in compassion. Spirit of God, fill us with love. For leaders in our world and our community, may they act wisely. Spirit of God, fill us with love. For each of us that we may give wise counsel. Spirit of God, fill us with love. For what else do we pray? (When all are finished offering prayers) For these prayers and all those we hold deep in our hearts. Spirit of God, fill us with love. Closing Prayer: May the Holy Spirit guide us and give us light to bring your word to our brothers and sisters. Keep us faithful and give us peace. Amen.

Led by the Spirit of God Trinity Sunday June 7, 2009 Prayer at the Beginning of the Meeting Invitation to Prayer Ever Faithful Father, Jesus our Brother, Spirit of Love, let us boldly proclaim and praise you. Amen. Scripture Reading: Matthew 28: The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshipped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Silent Reflection Questions for Faith Sharing 1. How is our parish community a reflection of the community of love that is the Trinity? 2. What are some of the ways we as individuals and as a parish spread the Good News?

Prayer at the End of the Meeting Intercessory Prayers Loving God, receive our prayers For all nations, that we all reflect the love that God has for us and for all of creation, we pray Gracious God, hear our prayer. For what else shall we pray? (When all are finished offering prayers) For these prayers and all those we hold deep in our hearts. Gracious God, hear our prayer. Closing Prayer: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen.

Invitation to Prayer Do This! The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 14, 2009 Prayer at the Beginning of the Meeting Humbly in your sight we come together, Lord. Grant us now the blessing of your presence here. (Excerpt from a Malawi church song) Scripture Reading: Mark 14: While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, Take it; this is my body. Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Silent Reflection Questions for Faith Sharing 1. Do this! -- What do these words of Jesus mean to you? 2. What extravagant love Jesus has for us! How can we individually and as a community show him our gratitude?

Prayer at the End of the Meeting Intercessory Prayers Loving God, we bring our prayers to you For the poor and the homeless, may our love offer them hope Lord, hear our prayer. For those newly baptized, may they grow in love through the Eucharist Lord, hear our prayer. For what else shall we pray? (When all are finished offering prayers) For these prayers and all those we hold deep in our hearts. Lord, hear our prayer. Closing Prayer May the Lord bless and keep us forever. May the Lord grant us peace, perfect peace, and courage in every moment. Amen.

God is With Us 12 th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 21, 2009 Prayer at the Beginning of the Meeting Invitation to Prayer Whoever is in Christ is a new creation; the old things have passed away. Behold, new things have come. Give thanks to the Lord, for God s love is everlasting. Scripture Reading: Mark 4: On that day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples: Let us cross to the other side. Leaving the crowd, they took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was. And other boats were with him. A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already filling up. Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Quiet! Be still! The wind ceased and there was great calm. Then he asked them, Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith? They were filled with great awe and said to one another, Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey? The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Silent Reflection Questions for Faith Sharing 1. What issues in our parish, neighborhood, or world seem frightening? 2. How can we help ourselves and others realize that Christ is in our midst? Intercessory Prayers Prayer at the End of the Meeting For all those faced with loss of loved ones, of health, of their jobs, we pray Gracious God, hear our prayer. For what else shall we pray? (When all are finished offering prayers) For these prayers and all those we hold deep in our hearts. Gracious God, hear our prayer. Closing Prayer Loving God, let your love be with us. Give us peace in our hearts and in our world. Help us to know that you are present in all of creation. Amen.

Compassionate Living 13 th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 28, 2009 Prayer at the Beginning of the Meeting Invitation to Prayer In the beginning, when it was very dark, God said, Let there be light and there was Light. In the beginning, when it was very quiet, the Word was with God and what God was, the Word was. When the time was right, God sent his Son. He came among us, he was one of us. Scripture Reading: Mark 5: There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years. She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors and had spent all that she had. Yet she was not helped but only grew worse. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak. She said, If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured. Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, Who has touched my clothes? But his disciples said to him, You see how the crowd is pressing upon you, and yet you ask, Who touched me? And he looked around to see who had done it. The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. He said to her, Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Silent Reflection

Questions for Faith Sharing 1. Where do you see the need for compassionate love within our church community? 2. As we look beyond the walls of our church, whom do we see that needs us to bring God s compassionate love to them? Intercessory Prayer Prayer at the End of the Meeting As members of Christ s Body, we pray for our needs and for the needs of the world That we may grow in compassionate loving toward all Lord, hear our prayer. That we may find the giftedness in every person Lord, hear our prayer. For what else shall we pray? (When all are finished offering prayers) For these prayers and all those we hold deep in our hearts. Lord, hear our prayer. Closing Prayer Compassionate God, look with love upon us. Give us your peace and help us bring your peace to those who suffer. Amen.
