Your house is not made with hands, O Lord, but of your faithful children. Amen. CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS We confess our sins before God and one another. Pause for silence and reflection. God of the covenant, We, like your people of old, have not always been faithful. We have heard the words but haven t always believed them. We have been shown the way but haven t always followed. We have been called by you but have refused the invitation, thinking we know better. We deeply desire your mercy, and beg for your forgiveness. Amen. The promise of the Lord is as true today as it was in the beginning. We are chosen, we are loved, and we are pardoned. Receive the blessing of God s absolution and believe that the words are true! For the sake of Jesus our Savior, Amen. GATHERING HYMN All Creatures, Worship God Most High vs 1-3 ELW 835 GATHERED IN GOD S MISSION Let us pray: Living God, in days gone by stories were created and shared that told of your journeying with a chosen people. A people who for generations walked a troubled path and longed for something different. Amen. Voice: This story sends us out in mission. Mission comes from Latin, meaning to send. When we talk about mission in the Christian church we talk about it in various ways. Mostly it has to do with what God is up to in the world mission has the sense of movement God s continual coming into the world. Voice: We look to the Bible to paint a picture of what this looks like. When Jesus begins his ministry, he proclaimed that the kingdom of God was here. Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent and believe in the good news. Voice: We are part of this story. All: So we know God s mission as God s action throughout history through the creation of the world, saving Israel from slavery through the stories and songs of judges, kings, and prophets through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the forming of the church -- through our lives today. Amen.

2 Let us pray: By your word, eternal God, your creation sprang forth, and we were given the breath of life. By your word, eternal God, death is overcome, Christ is raised from the tomb, and we are given new life in the power of your Spirit. May we boldly proclaim this good news in our words and our deeds, rejoicing always in your powerful presence; through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. When he commits iniquity, I will punish him with a rod such as mortals use, with blows inflicted by human beings. But I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me; your throne shall be established forever. In accordance with all these words and with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David. SERMON HYMN OF THE DAY Our Father, By Whose Name ELW 640 WE GATHER OUR GIFTS FOR THE SAKE OF GOD S MISSION During the first century, the Apostle Paul was called in Acts 16: During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." As soon as Paul had the vision, the group set out and we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them. Paul writes to the faith community in Corinth about this call for mission We want you to know, brothers and sisters, about the grace of God that has been granted to the churches of Macedonia; for during a severe ordeal of affliction, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. Today we hear a lot about motivating individuals and congregations to grow in Christ, participate in ministry and give to God s work. From 2 Corinthians 8: and this, not merely as we expected; they gave themselves first to the Lord and, by the will of God, to us, Why we give: (2 Corinthians 8:3) they voluntarily gave according to their means, and even beyond their means, begging us earnestly for the privilege of sharing in this ministry to the saints Let us pray: Lord, how wonderful is your dwelling place. For this place that is our worship space, we thank you. For all the gifts of your people in this place: those that maintain it both in structure and activity, we praise You. Accept these our gifts as we bring them before You, and those offered in other ways, and use them for your work here, and in the establishment of your kingdom throughout the world. Amen. But you long for our very hearts, all of who we are, so that you might make of us to be your people in the world. Live in us and through us, making of our lives your perfect offering. Amen. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. BLESSING AND SENDING It is time to take leave of this place, a house built for the people of God, a place where generations of folk have come to find God. And yet we cannot keep God contained within these walls. We take God with us in our daily lives, wherever we go God is there. As we journey this week, let God be visible in our lives so others might see God too. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever. Amen. Go in peace. Share the good news.
