PARISH OFFICE HOURS During July and August the parish office will only be open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am to 12 noon.

3 Parish Information Phone: WELCOME TO OUR FAITH COMMUNITY Are you visiting or interested in joining St. Gerard? Welcome!!! If this is your spiritual home we invite you to register with the parish. If you live outside the parish boundaries the only way we are able to assist you is if you are registered with St. Gerard and this is the parish you attend on Sundays. If you are new to the parish please introduce yourself to our pastor. PREPARATION FOR SACRAMENTS INFANT BAPTISM Please call the Parish Office at for an appointment. A Baptism Preparation Course is required for all parents and Godparents. A Godparent must be 16 years of age, baptized Catholic and be Confirmed. Please make arrangements at least one month in advance by contacting the Parish office. In grade 2, children may receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. RECONCILIATION At our parish the Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated in the first week in March or before the March break. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION Preparation for First Holy Communion begins after March break. First Holy Communion is celebrated in May. CONFIRMATION The sacrament of Confirmation is available to those who have been baptized, received Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Candidates must be in grade 7 or higher. Confirmation is generally celebrated in November. For more details please call the parish office. CARE OF THE SICK & HOME BOUND To arrange for the Sacrament of the Sick and/or Eucharist for the home-bound, please contact the parish office. Visits to the hospital are made regularly; please call and let us know you would like a visit. MARRIAGE Please make marriage arrangements six (6) months in advance by contacting the Parish Office. CHILDREN S LITURGY It is so heart-warming and a special joy to see young families taking part in the Holy Mass and engaged in the life of the parish. We welcome crying babies! It is a sign that the church is young and alive. We have a committed, caring and energetic team organizing the Children s Liturgy Program every Sunday. We encourage parents to bring your children to participate in the Liturgy of the Word with children during our Sunday 11:00 a.m. Mass. 4 Parish/Regional News! FUNERAL CELEBRATIONS If you need any help when preparing for a funeral, please do not hesitate to contact the Parish Office. As Catholics, the best model we can choose is to give sufficient time for grieving by having a visitation and then having a celebration of one s life with the celebration of Holy Mass. MEMORIAL DONATIONS We invite all parishioners to consider St. Gerard Majella Church when choosing a charitable institution for Memorial Donations in the death announcement in the local media to honor a loved one who has passed. This form of financial support and heartfelt gesture would truly bless and enrich the life of St. Gerard Majella Church. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated! MASS REQUESTS To request a Mass intention, either call the office or come into the office. Place your offering of $15.00 per Mass in the envelope and bring it to the parish office or put in the weekend collection. Cheques can be made payable to St. Gerard Majella Church. FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC We are always ready to begin the process by which an adult or older child becomes a Catholic, either by full initiation in Baptism, or by reception into full communion. HOME SCHOOL PARISH Our parish cherishes an amazing working relationship with three Catholic Schools in the neighbourhood: St. Paul s School St. Basil s School St. Mary s College Begin with a daily offering O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month. As a vital component of the province s publicly funded education system, Catholic schools educate nearly 600,000 students each year. Did you know? Your school support defaults to English Public each time you move residences. You must re-declare yourself as English Separate. It is important to regularly verify your tax-directed support by checking your property tax bill or speaking to your landlord. You may also call the Municipal Property Assessment Office at to complete school support changes for electoral purposes or to add a name(s) to an existing address. Catholic Clergy Award presented to student at St. Mary's College This past week at the St. Mary's College Graduation Ceremony at the Essar Centre, the Catholic priests of Sault Ste. Marie presented Tiana Bressan as the first recipient of the Catholic Clergy Award. Tiana is a parishioner of St. Gregory's Parish where she regularly attends Mass and volunteers in different ways in her community. She will be attending the University of Guelph in September. The Catholic Clergy Award recognizes a student who makes it a priority to practice their Catholic faith and volunteers in their parish community. The student received a bursary for $ Congratulations Tiana! The Pope asks us to pray for one published intention each month. During the Month of July let us pray for Priests and their pastoral ministry That priests, who experience fatigue and loneliness in their pastoral work may find help and comfort in their intimacy with the Lord and in their friendship with their brother priests.

5 Parish/Regional News! From the Pastor s Desk Dear Parishioners, The family life has undergone tremendous changes in the past years, especially in recent years. It is being attacked by money, power, selfishness, individualism and materialism. There is loneliness and poverty in families. There is a hesitancy to welcome new life and inconsideration to older persons in families. In this challenging situation it is easy to lose heart and give up on families. But, instead, let us ask ourselves, how can we, as pastors, parents and teachers, strengthen our families and make a difference in our society? This year, Pope Francis chose Dublin, Ireland, to host this important gathering which will be held from August 21 28, The theme of this international event will be The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World. Pope Francis confirmed that he will be travelling to Ireland to take part in it. As a Parish Family, let us keep all participants in our daily prayers. Should a family in our parish be interested in travelling to Dublin to participate in this event, the Diocese is willing to pay $1, per family to help cover the trip expenses. You need only communicate with Robert Lariviere at the Diocesan Centre ( , ext 229). May the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary be with this event and upon all families! Indian Banquet By Chef Father Alex Sunday 15th July (6:30pm) at St Gerard Majella Parish Hall You are invited to join us for an evening of Indian cuisine cooked by our veryown -Chef Father Alex. Tickets will be on sale in the church lobby before and after weekendmasses or at theparish office during office hours from Saturday June 9th. Ticket prices are$30(adults), $10(children 10 or under) orfree (children under 5) with all proceeds going towards the St Gerard Majella Churchbuilding fund. Tickets will be handed out on purchase only. Please come, support the cause and enjoy an Indian feast prepared by Father Alex. There will be an opportunity to win fabulous prices!
