1 I AM THE VINE, YOU ARE THE BRANCHES (John 15:51) JULY/AUGUST 2017 VOL. XXXVI, NO. 7/8 A MESSAGE FROM OUR NEW PASTORAL ASSISTANT Greetings in our Lord Jesus Christ! My name is Constantine Trumpower. I was born in Portland, Oregon, and baptized into the Greek Orthodox Christian Faith at Holy Trinity Cathedral, in Portland. It is a great joy to be here in Anaheim assisting Fr. John Kariotakis. An interesting fact is that he is also the priest who baptized me! I have felt a calling to the priesthood since I was 10 years old, and am grateful to God that this calling will be fulfilled in August here in Anaheim. After getting married, my beautiful wife Adrienne and I spent four wonderful years in Boston, at Holy Cross Theological School. I then spent one year serving as Pastoral Assistant in the community of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Mission Church in Missoula, MT before coming to St. John the Baptist - Anaheim. We look forward to serving you all and getting to know you better! I am excited that Fr. John is bestowing on me the honor of serving the parish s youth - from the very young to college-age and young adults. I look forward to collaborating with all ministry leaders in the parish, and creating joyful, meaningful, Christ-centered activities for all age groups! I have a particular passion for serving the Middle School, High School, and Young Adult age groups. It is my strong desire to facilitate transformative and transparent discussions with these ages, so that we can feel comfortable exploring the Orthodox Christian Faith, and delving deeper into who we are, and what we do as Greek Orthodox Christians. By the grace of God, and by the hand of His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos, I will be ordained to the Holy Deaconate on Saturday, August 5th, and then to the Holy Priesthood, on Sunday, August 6th. I want to personally invite you and request that you come and pray with me during this blessed event. When you see us in coffee hour, please introduce yourself! 9 Message from the President Fr. John, Mr. Constantine Trumpower, members of the Parish Council and fellow Parishioners, First, on behalf of the Parish Council and all of us, we would like to welcome Mr. Constantine Trumpower and his family for accepting to serve our faith as the assistant Priest. Mr. Trumpower will be ordained to Ordination to the Holy Diaconate on August 5 th, and to the Holy Priesthood on August 6 th. Please mark your calendar! I believe that most of you have also met his wife Adrienne Trumpower and his three beautiful children, Peter (5), Isaac (3) and Theodore (2). Congratulations to all for another successful Festival. Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and of course to everyone that supported the festival by coming to enjoy the great food and music. During the past few years since I got involved with the Lamb Booth, I have come to witness first hand all the hard work that our parishioners do in order to have success. Special Thanks to Spyros Rados, Stacy Sotos Lanyi and John Ohanian for their endless hours. Thank you all!! I had the pleasure to nominate the Honorable Steven Counelis as the Chairman of our Strategic Plan Committee, and we are honored that he has accepted this very important effort for our Community s future. Please refer to News from Around the Community section of this Vineyard for a more complete update on this and other projects. The Orange Street Fair is coming soon, Labor Day weekend. HELP NEEDED!! We need volunteers in order to support this very important annual fund raising event. Please sign up to volunteer at our Street Fair table in the Church Hall every Sunday after the services. Again, we are asking for your participation, support and feedback.
