This Collection supports organizations that provide affordable shelter and training for seminarians in a region that still struggles with the effects of Soviet rule. By providing pastoral care, catechesis, and funding for building renovations, your donations help to restore the Church and build the future in the region. Gifts made to the 2014 Bishop s Appeal are providing 70% of the support needed for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany s diverse ministries and programs to operate in the current fiscal year. 3 The 2015 Bishop s Appeal Dear Friends in the Lord Jesus, We are all the Church + The 2015 Bishop s Appeal + Each year at this Easter season our Bishop asks the parishes of our Diocese to make their annual contribution to the Bishop s Appeal. This is the Annual Easter Charity Appeal. I ask that before we make ours, we think about where our gifts go and how they are used and about the lives that are touched and made better on the receiving end of your generosity here at St. Mary s. While our parish communities nurture and sustain our individual spiritual lives, no parish is able to stand alone in meeting the greater temporal and spiritual needs of the People of God in our vast diocese of fourteen counties. Through the Bishop s Appeal all parishes unite and become one family to support and sustain all the programs and services which educate our young, care for the elderly and seniors, feed the hungry, house the homeless and strengthen our Catholic faith in our homes, parishes and communities. Your support goes further. Additionally, your support of the Easter Appeal insures that individual parishes like ours are provided essential diocesan support services, thereby assisting in the growth and vitality of our parish communities. As we prepare to make our gifts to the Bishop s Appeal this year, I ask that we reflect on the year of the family that we are all the Church you and I, each other as St. Teresa of Avila prayed, the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world. As long as we people populate the planet, there will always be the need for the Church to extend the loving and healing heart of Jesus to all. I ask every family of St. Mary s Our Lady of the Lake to be as generous as you are able in helping our parish make our contribution to the success of the 2015 Bishop s Appeal which begins at the end of April 2015 and extends through June Thank you for your generosity in the past! 5 61st Annual Bishop s Appeal The Bishop s Appeal, over the course of sixty one years, has been about bringing the Gospel to life through the good works and combined generosity of our diocesan family. The message of the Gospel is to love and to serve God and each other. How then is that message ever old and tired? ~Bishop Edward Scharfenberger The Bishop would be the first one to tell you that, that the Bishop s Appeal is not about him but rather it is all about Jesus and His messages to us. On Sunday, May 3, as we kicked off the 2015 Annual Bishop s Appeal Campaign of Hope, the Gospel s message spoke of the very essence of this local Appeal: + God the Father is the vine grower, + Jesus is the vine + We are the branches who are being asked to remain in Him and produce fruit. The fruit we are being asked to produce is that of Hope, Love & Service: WE ARE BEING ASKED To care for each other such as through Catholic Charities: + Helping the homeless + Helping those who are physically or emotionally challenged + Helping senior citizens in their final years who need companionship, love & dignity + Helping families wracked by poverty, domestic violence or substance abuse...and so much more! In 2014, over 86,000 lives were touched by God s hand and your generosity in the Albany Diocese through the efforts of Catholic Charities. That s a number that can only be reached by us all pulling together. WE ARE ALSO BEING ASKED TO care for The Church such as through the CATHOLIC EDUCATION of our children in schools, through religious education programs like ours AND through the encouragement of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Be sure to take one home so that you might learn how our donations and pledges will spread God s GREATEST COMMANDMENT to LOVE ONE ANOTHER by funding over 30 ministries & programs of our 14 county, Albany Diocese. I invite each of you to prayerfully decide how God is asking you personally to support the Bishop s Appeal OF LOVE, HOPE & SERVICE this year. for when you did all these things for the least of my people, truly I tell you, you did them for me.
