3 St. Joseph Catholic Church Announcements Our second graders in our PSR program will be making their first sacrament of reconciliation today, Sunday at 4pm. Your prayers are appreciated. Today is a 5th Sunday special collection for St. Martin de Porres. Please give generously. Fish Frys sponsored by the Knights of Columbus start the Friday after Ash Wednesday, February 12. There will be SIX Fridays this Lenten Season so there are plenty of times for everyone to join us. We will begin Stations of the Cross on Friday, February 12 in the Church. Please spend an hour in this act of Spiritual Mercy. 5 St. Martin de Porres Today is a 5th Sunday. That means a special collection for our parish ministry for the needy. St. Martin de Porres provides many different kinds of help to our neighbors, including furniture, beds, appliances, and certain types of monetary help. The needs are always there but especially in the winter and colder weather. Please consider helping by donating today. Penance Service Correction: The Lenten Penance Service is Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at the PAC, not March 15 as noted in the previous bulletin. BAKING ANGELS NEEDED! Ash Wednesday is February 10 this year and the first Fish Fry is Friday, Feb. 12! St. Martin de Porres will once again sponsor the Dessert Table at the Fish Fry as a Fundraiser for the Ministry. Our parish is noted for the incredible bakers who provide an array of desserts that the entire community raves about! We ask for your favorites, for one week or more if you are so inclined. Many bakers contribute each week, as a sort of Lenten sacrifice. All baked items are welcome: Cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, fruit desserts, new recipes and family favorites from other generations. Be creative and sign up for one or more weeks during the six weeks of Lent. Baked goods should be on disposable plates, containers, whenever possible. If you use a container you need back, PLEASE put your name on the bottom. Desserts may be dropped off at PAC Thursday evening or anytime Friday. You may place items on tables just outside Carpenter Hall or, in refrigerator if needed. 6 MINISTRY SCHEDULE the jubilee year of mercy Pope s General Audience from January 20, 2016 No one is excluded from God s mercy. No One. The Pontiff explained that this year s theme was drawn from the First Letter of Peter, in which Peter encourages the first Christians to acknowledge the great gift received in Baptism and to live in a way worthy of it. Recalling that Peter tells them, You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God s own people, Francis stresses that this week invites us to reflect on our unity in Christ as God s people. All the baptized, reborn to new life in Christ, are brothers and sisters, despite our divisions, he stressed. Through Baptism, Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox, Francis stressed, are all brothers and are God s holy people. Together, he said, we are to rediscover how to transmit this mercy we received to others, especially the poor and abandoned. Sharing in Baptism means having the awareness, he stressed, that we are all sinners and we need to be saved, redeemed and freed from evil. We Christians are able to announce to all the strength of the Gospel, committing ourselves to share the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, that are a concrete sign of unity. Therefore, he continued, all Christians have a common mission to transmit the mercy we ve received to others. Let all of us disciples of Christ, Pope Francis urged, find a way to collaborate to carry the Father s mercy throughout all the world. Read the entire general audience at 4:30 P.M.
