MARK 9:35 Jesus teaches us that we are called to serve one another. Sacrifice is not a word that many people like to hear. We think it means that we must give up something that we want. However, the literal meaning of sacrifice is to make holy, from the words sacer = sacred and facere = to make. In other words, we make our lives holy by sharing our gifts in the service of God. page 3

4 Children s Liturgy of the Word As the new PSR school year begins we will also begin our new Works of Mercy Project with the elementary students. We have selected Edgewater Place as the recipient of our efforts. Each month a different class room will be creating a seasonal craft and we will deliver them to the residents of Edgewater Place. Each craft is designed to take only minutes. We will need 1-2 adult volunteers to help on these dates with each session 4:30 pm & 6:30 pm. All supplies will be furnished. Please see Maria Vonada to sign-up. Thank you! October 1-1st grade November 5-6th grade December 3-3rd grade January 7-4th grade February 4-5th grade March 4-2nd grade April 1 - All grades* (*6 volunteers for 4:30 and 5 for 6:30). CLW will begin again on October 7 during the 11 am Mass. All children ages preschool to second grade are encouraged to attend so they can hear the Gospel story on a level they can understand. CLW is offered on the first two Sundays of each month. Seeking Children s Pageant Coordinator and Helpers Advent and Christmas preparations have begun. We need several volunteers to help coordinate the PSR children s Christmas Pageant. Rehearsals will begin December 3 at 5:30 pm. Please see Father Trapp or Maria Vonada if you would like to assist our children in this timehonored tradition at St. Joseph. The Pageant will be performed at the Christmas Vigil Childrens Mass on December 24. You are cordially invited to attend the St. Martin de Porres Outreach light luncheon after 11 am Mass next Sunday, September 30 at the PAC. Please stop by for sub sandwiches and coffee. Also please remember that next weekend is a $5 for 5 weekend to benefit St. Martin de Porres. There is an envelope in your packet.
