3 Page 3 Clergy Corner As I write this article, I realize we are beginning Holy Week, the most sacred time of the Church Liturgical year and we are only two weeks away from our annual parish fair. The fact that this year Easter falls only five days before the annual Festival de la Prairie seems to place these two realities in such stark contrast. The spirituality and solemnity of Holy Week seems to differ so strongly from the energy and the rowdiness of the Festival weekend. As strange as it may seem, I would like to suggest that these two realities actually go hand in hand. First of all, it is our Faith which unites us together as members of God s Church Family. And during Holy Week we celebrate the basics of our Faith; namely the life, the death and the resurrection of God s own divine Son. It is these very events which offer us God s gift of eternal life. And it is this life of the Lord Jesus which unites us in the community of His Church. At the same time, it is this very sense of community which is meant to fuel our annual parish fair. Certainly the revenue from the Festival is a major fiscal help to St. John. Yet even deeper than this, the fair weekend enables us to offer our area neighbors and friends some good, clean fun and fellowship. I dare say that nowadays good clean fun can be hard to find. And we, as the St. John community, have the privilege of offering this gift to all who care to join us. So I certainly urge you to join us for as many of the Holy Week services as you possibly can. But I also urge you to help share our sense of community by being an active part of the April St. John Festival de la Prairie. Why not share during Easter Week that which we have celebrated during Holy Week?
