John Fisher and Thomas More The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus The Na vity of St. John the Bap st LECTURAS DE HOY Primera lectura El hombre no vive solamente de pan, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios (Deuteronomio 8:2-3, 14b- 16a). Salmo Glorifica al Señor, Jerusalén (Salmo 147 [146]). Segunda lectura El pan es uno, y así nosotros, aunque somos muchos, formamos un solo cuerpo (1 Corin os 10:16-17). Evangelio El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, ene vida eterna (Juan 6:51-58). TRUST IN JESUS Today s feast celebrates another central mystery of our faith the mystery of the Eucharist. Like the mystery of the Trinity, the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist can never be fully understood, but can only be believed. Just as the Israelites in the desert were invited to put their trust in God s word; like them, we are invited to trust wholly in the word of Jesus. In today s Gospel Jesus promises to give us a share in his very own flesh and blood, and a share in eternal life besides. We are called to take him at his word and open our hearts to receive true nourishment and life from our par cipa on in the Eucharist. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. FE JEZI KONFYANS Jodia a nap selebre yon lòt mistè santral nan lafwa nou-mistè Ekaris a. Tankou mistè Sent Trinite a, prezans reyèl kò a ak san Kris la nan Ekaris an, nou pap janm kapab konprann li nèt, men se kwè pou nou kwè l. Menm jan pèp Izrayèl la nan dezè a te jwenn envitasyon pou yo mete konfyans yo nan pawòl Bondye a, jodia nou jwenn envitasyon pou n mete konfyans nou nèt ale nan pawòl Jezi Kri a. Nan Levanjil jodia, Jezi pwomèt pou li pataje pwòp kò l ak pwòp san l, ak lavi ki pap janm fini an. Se pou nou konte sou pawòl Jezi Kri a e se pou nou louvri kè nou,pou nou resevwa vre nouri ak lavi atravè pa sipasyon nou nan Ekaris a. 5 NEW PARISHONERS New Parishioners are welcomed at St A PRAYER St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of James. If you want to join our Parish Family, please a end one of our orienta on mee ngs which are held one Sunday a month at 11:00 AM, Mee ng Room. For Dates please call the Parish Office or speak to someone at the informa on booth at the back of the church, near the main entrance a er Masses on Sundays. Everyone interested in joining is welcome to the mee ng! We have coffee, donuts and juice for the li le one and you will be out in me for lunch. CURRENT PARISHONERS, please inform us of any name, address or phone changes; this will assist in keeping your records up to date. Thank You! Mary, you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty. You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect those who trus ngly come to you. You know their aspira ons, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them. You too knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through in macy with God's Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Mother. Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone. Teach them to find Jesus near them and to watch over him faithfully as you have done. Pope John XXIII CALL TO STEWARDSHIP Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. 1 CORINTHIANS 10:17 As disciples of Jesus, we are called to lead holy lives and invite others to join us. Living a stewardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gi s, serves a twofold purpose. One, it helps build God s kingdom here on earth. Two, it is a road map to Heaven. Let s help each other get there!
6 TO BE SATISFIED WITH A SCRAP OF FLESH AND A DROP OF BLOOD OR NOT TO BE The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. (John 6:53) In this passage on the Bread of Life discourse, Jesus is understandably exasperated here. He is repeating what he said in a different way, but says the same thing that those he was speaking to, find difficult not only to understand but also to accept, even though he was not speaking in parables. In the previous verses, he had just fed the multitude, refused their attempt to crown him, gone through a stormy chase, and is now involved in a stormy discussion about him being the bread of life. In spite of all this, Jesus ability to see into and know our human nature is as sharp as always: unless you eat this or do this you will not have life. But we are still eating what tastes good to us and doing what we please. Right? It is a chronic shortcoming of our relationship with Jesus to be in it for the stuff we want or for the stuff we get. (This is sometimes called the prosperity gospel ). It s like loving somebody for the candy we get on Valentine s Day. The signs of generous divine love worked in our lives by the blood of Christ, must serve only to draw us more deeply into true love with Jesus. As you seek, follow Jesus along the road less traveled on your spiritual journey, I take the liberty to share with you what was my first and only prayer of that journey which I continue to say daily until it is the only thing I do as I yearn to be faithful to the word and live for him: How many are the signs of your love for me, Lord! How few are the ways I honestly respond in love. Show me the true way to you this day, every day. LIVING THE PRAYER Today I will move beyond the surface gratitude for God s goodness. Does Jesus word scare me to the point of wishing he would stay quiet? Does God s generosity only lead me, selfishly, to want more? Do I show thankfulness by being a sign of God s love? Msgr. Chanel Jeanty

Fire Lanes are exactly THAT. There are lanes to be left open for an emergency for Fire or Emergency vehicles. Fire lanes are not parking lanes. Cars parked in a fire lane can be towed according to code. We have not enforced this hoping for common sense and courtesy. However, we may have to do this for emergency safety sake. Please park under the bridge when the regular parking places around the church are all taken up. Thank you for your charity and for your courtesy in this very important matter.
