This first line of today s first reading sets the tone as this fi y-day celebra on of Easter opens before us. Today we listen to the teachings of three apostles Luke, Peter, and John who remind us that even though we have not seen Christ, we nonetheless are filled with joy as we place our belief in his saving death and resurrec on. Each week during the Easter season we will gather as a community of faith to find strength and support from our God and from one another. Each week we will gather to break bread and offer the great prayer of thanksgiving, ac ons that will manifest the very presence of the risen Christ in our midst. Let us be open to the wonders of this season of joy.

5 Easter Joy Comes and Goes but the Eucharis c Community Always Remains In our part of the world the spring flowers are seeking the sun s invita ons to come out and spread their smiles. There are coolish winds that whisper to the flowers to stay inside as it did to me when I stepped out the house. Spring around here is a me of tensions. What should I wear today? Will we play soccer today, or pull out the umbrella for a walk in the Rain of God? There are tensions within our spirits as well on this day that Commemorates Easter. Easter s joy can so easily be dimmed by our ongoing experiences of carrying our crosses of life, by our discouragement about the not so successful or frui ul lent that passed. But today our renewal of bap smal promises is a renewal of our beliefs in the love of God and the hope that we have in him as human pilgrims walking the journey. So, as you enter the church we can s ll pray with the tensions of nature around us and our human nature as we watch leaves budding or clouds forming or sun shining. We can pray with the sprinkles of rain or sunshine. We pray with the inconsistencies of the weather and of our own personal spirits. Easter joy comes and goes but today, like every Sunday, we are here for the Eucharis c consistency of God s presence that never fails. The Gospel is just a wonderful story of the Resurrec on. One devoted woman and a good human being has suffered through the Passion and death of Jesus. She, like all the other disciples, had their faith-dream crash into pieces. Mary of Magdala followed her natural inclina ons to go backward to the familiar. She went with downcast faces and spirits and she le with others, believing and hoping against all hopes. The tension for all the disciples is that they trusted the teachings of Jesus, His friendship and invita ons and then went out as a loser. Perhaps they too had le everything to follow Jesus and now they were returning to patch it all back together by themselves. Throughout the Resurrec on Stories, Jesus will come along side them, but as is the usual prac ce during the Resurrec on narra ves, they will fail to realize His real presence to them. Jesus plays it simple; Peter commented that they had taken the Body of the Lord as a acknowledgement of the evidence and the acceptance by them that they did understand that the Christ had to suffer and die. So, to you I ask, is an empty tomb convincing enough for you to believe? Is this the Resurrec on? Yes, in this sense, because it was a uni ng, a calling to believe beyond seeing, and most importantly, because it culminated in a return to community and mission. Jesus is buried three mes in His life. The first was in the womb of His mother. The second was in the tomb a er His death. The third is His being buried in the Breaking of the Bread a er His Resurrec on. All three burials were meant for His coming to His three ways of being a Real Presence within our human lives. The womb, the Tomb, and our bodies are blest by His presence. All three are delivery places. He was born, lived, died, was buried and rose that His body might give life and vision to this world. The womb and tomb could not hold Him. We who do hold Him, do not hold Him back, but hold Him forth, hold Him sacredly toward His sisters and brothers. We hold Him and yet He too holds us together and with a sense of having to do something good. We hold Him so that others may behold Him in how we live as His Body. Mary of Magdala and the other disciples get back on the Jerusalem shu le and, having regained their sight, return to their mission. Their hearts were burning with a renewed awareness of just who they were. Others had regained their self-sense as well and the fragmented and sha ered were being collected and reformed in Jerusalem. It is true that we cannot give what we do not have. These disciples were given back their sense of themselves. They said yes, amen to Jesus truth that He had risen and to their own truths that the adventure of faith in following Jesus was really a journey of Jesus following them. They were pregnant, as had Mary been and the tomb as well, but now they were alive to give Him life, full, that they might give sight and life through and within the community of believers. I pray that you might come to know who you really are in the Lord and join us in our mission to be Doers of the Word, Living for the Lord. The disciples recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread. Alleluia. Lk. 24, 35

6 Reporting abuse is the right thing to do Child abuse can happen anywhere, even in the home, and for families placed in this horrible situation, reporting abuse can be very difficult, but it is critical to do so in order to protect children. Adults must first act to stop the abuse by being alert to warning signs. If discovered, report abuse to the proper authorities. To report abuse or the suspicion of abuse call DCF at ABUSE ( ).

7 1- Social Media Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love is everlas ng. 2- Planned Giving A Charitable Gi Annuity benefits our parish, offers be er rates than many CDs, gives you a tax deduc on, and is an excellent way to pass on your Catholic Heritage. Contact the rectory or all the Office of Planned Giving at (305) for more informa on. 3- Stewardship Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, Peace be with you. JOHN 20:19 How good are you at making people feel welcome? When you meet someone new, a new parishioner, a neighbor, a work colleague, do you welcome them and make them feel at home? Many of us can probably do a much be er job at this. When we make people feel welcome, we make them feel like they are belong instead of being excluded. A simple smile and a plain hello goes a long way.
