3 ANNOUNCEMENTS Faith Formation News Our next class will be on Sunday, November 4 at 9:00 am. You may pick your child up in the social hall at 10:45 am and take them to Mass with you. Please note, all children should be attending Mass every week, not only on Faith Formation Sundays. Thank you to Sweeney s Farm for donating pumpkins for all the children to take home last class and to Texas Roadhouse for the free kid s meal coupons! Attention Youth in grades 8 to 12 NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference) will be held in November 20-23, 2019 in Indianapolis, Indiana. This conference is held every two years and is an educational, prayerful, safe and interesting trip for all those who attend. This conference attracts over 20,000 Catholic teenagers across the country! Some of the activities include a trip to Dave and Buster s, nationally recognized speakers, powerful prayer experiences, Christian musicians and an interactive park to hang out with 20,000 + of your closest friends! Most students who attend once, want to return a second time! Please contact Cheryl if you are interested in receiving more information about this exciting trip! Call to Orders for Mr. John Zombar Bishop Malesic has formally called Mr. John Zombar to Ordination to the Permanent Diaconate. The date for the diaconate ordination is Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Listening Sessions Bishop Edward C. Malesic invites every member of the Diocese of Greensburg to join him at any of the seven listening sessions where he will be present this fall. Bishop Malesic knows that the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report and the events of the past few months have evoked a great deal of pain, sadness, confusion and uncertainty for the faithful of the Diocese of Greensburg. These seven upcoming gatherings are extremely important, enabling Bishop Malesic to be present to you, to listen to your concerns and to respond to your questions. These sessions will give you the opportunity to express your feelings, observations and suggestions. Please attend one of the sessions with Bishop Malesic and allow your input to help him guide our church as we go forward from this moment in our history as the People of God. JOHN ZOMBAR Bishop Malesic has formally called Mr. John Zombar to Ordination to the Permanent Diaconate. The date for the diaconate ordination is Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. John has invited all parishioners to attend the ordination. Please remember John in prayer as he anticipates the joyous occasion of his ordination to the permanent diaconate. TOWEL COLLECTION TO SUPPORT THE HOMELESS The Holy Name Society, in response to a request from Fr. Tim Kruthraupt and the Men of the Boulevard, are asking for your support to the homeless by donating TOWELS both bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths. There will be a collection bin at the back of the Church. Please help this collection which will end at the end of October. SOCK DRIVE FOR VETERANS The Knights of Columbus are asking for your support of the Veterans both in the local hospitals as well as those who are homeless by donating SOCKS and FLEECE ITEMS. The winter will soon be upon us and these items are in particular need. A collection bin will be in the back of the church for this collection. Thank you for your support. ROSARY CHAPLET During these difficult times, we are praying a Rosary of Reparation before Mass during the month of October. Please come to Mass early so that you may participate in this devotion. If anyone would like to lead the Chaplet contact Dan Landini or Bill Ryckman to be placed on the schedule. LITTLE ROCK BIBLE STUDY The next meeting of the Little Rock Bible Study Group will be on Wednesday, October 31 st. The group meets in the Social Hall weekly on Wednesdays from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Please attend a session and learn the details of this year s study. All are welcome to attend. Watch the bulletin for more news about the Bible study. ERIC S MUSIC NOTES Today we begin our celebration with Praise the Lord, Ye Heavens. Based on Psalm 148, with music by Ludwig van Beethoven, this grand hymn dates to the 18th century. In contrast, our Preparation Hymn, 10,000 Reasons, is a "praise and worship" song published in As we receive Holy Communion today, we sing Christ, Be Our Light, by British composer Bernadette Farrell. We call Christ to be our light, peace, shelter; to brighten the darkness of our hearts. We conclude with O Bless the Lord, My Soul, a simple yet awesome paraphrase of Psalm 103. May the truth of God's light and goodness be with us this week and always. This week, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of All Saints. It is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated at Holy Family Church on Wednesday evening at 7 PM, and Thursday morning at 8 AM. Please make your attendance at one of these Masses a priority this week. Due to the Holy Day, Choir rehearsal this week will be on TUESDAY, at 6:30 PM in Church. New members are always welcome. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for our Second Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols, on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at 2:00 PM. Eric THANK YOU! Carey Student Center with a prize award ceremony and reception Oct. 28 from 3:30-6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. An opening lecture with 2018 juror Dr. Elizabeth Lev will be held at 2 p.m. in the Fred M. Rogers Center. The gallery is closed on Mondays and Nov AFTERNOON OF REFLECTION FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND LIFE CHALLENGING ILLNESSES The annual Afternoon of Reflection for individuals with disabilities and life challenging illnesses will be held at Our Lady of Grace Parish, Greensburg, Oct. 28 from 12:30-6 p.m. The program will be led by Msgr. Lawrence Kiniry. Bishop Edward C. Malesic will celebrate Mass at 4 p.m. Dinner follows. BINGO SOCIAL A BINGO Social will be held on Sunday, November 11th at Holy Family Social Hall. Bingo starts at 12:30. This is an all paper BINGO. The $8 admission includes a packet of 20 cards, door prize, Red Ball, and a delicious luncheon. The Jack Pot is $220.00, 51 numbers. The November Bingo is sponsored by the Holy Name Society. Proceeds will benefit HNS projects. Come on out and have some fun. For additional information or to reserve a book, call Sister of Charity Agnes Steedle in Greensburg at , ext. 6646, or Sister Patrice Hughes in the Pittsburgh area, SPECIAL COLLECTION-RETIRED RELIGIOUS AND RETIRED PRIESTS-NOVEMBER 3 & 4 Bishop Malesic asks that we join him in support of the upcoming appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious and Diocesan Priests and all of our brothers and sisters in Christ, present and past, who have dedicated their lives to prayer, ministry, and service. Today, the majority of women and men religious are past age 60; a significant number are past age 80. Many institutes simply do not have the resources to meet the dramatically escalating costs of care for their growing populations of elderly. Since 1999 we have included our retired diocesan priests in this appeal. The revenue generated through this collection allows the retirement fund for diocesan priests to provide periodically for an increase in the retirement benefit, without passing on the cost directly through an increase in the retirement premium. Twenty-five percent of the total of this year s collection will be designated for the retired diocesan priests fund, and the remainder of the collection revenue will be passed on to the National Religious Retirement Office for distribution to the various religious communities applying for assistance. ETHNIC FESTIVAL Next Sunday, November 4, St. Sebastian Parish, Belle Vernon, will hold an Ethnic Festival in their Parish Hall from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 p.m. As a parish of many different ethnic backgrounds, there will be a variety of foods to taste and see and purchase.
