3 New Year s Day Service Point Community Remembers - Iolaire Commemoration The Free Church and Church of Scotland congregations will hold a joint service at 11 am on New Year s Day in The Church of Scotland, Garrabost. The service will include commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the tragic loss of H.M.Y. Iolaire on 1st January 1919 when so many islanders, having survived the horrors of World War One, lost their lives on the shores of home. A wreath will be laid at the War Memorial at the close of the service. All in the community are invited and encouraged to attend this service which will be conducted by Rev Donald A Macdonald and assisted by Rev Paul Amed. Use of Church Buildings The Kirk Session have agreed to a 6-month trial of holding the morning services in Main Road and the evening services in School Road. The main reason for this is to accommodate the Sunday School and provide stability and regularity for the children and teachers. It will also bring consistency to the weekly routine and make it easier for those that aren t out every week and for those who come for the first time without the need to check where the service is. This will begin on the first Sunday of 2019 (6th January) and will be fully
4 reviewed before the end of June. The Wednesday prayer meetings will continue to alternate between both buildings. Main Road Church Library There has been a library in the side room at Main Road church for a number of years and is very little used. There is a wide range of books from ancient to modern. You are welcome to borrow any of these books for free at any time. There is a sheet in the room which you can write your name on and mark when you return the book. LDOS Prayer Meeting The local branch of DayOne/Lord s Day Observance Society will be holding an interdenominational prayer meeting on Sunday 6th January 2019 at 9pm at the APC Church, Keith Street, Stornoway. All most welcome.
5 Memories of my Father Mr Donald John Macaulay has written and published an interesting biography of the life and ministry of his father, the late Rev. Murdo Macaulay ( ). The book is priced at If you wish to purchase a copy, please put your name down on the sheet at the church entrance
