4 ~Youth Group~ Adventure & Adoration 6th - 12th Grades ~ Youth Ministry ~ Please pick up the ministry schedules to see when the kids are serving. It is wonderful to see all the kids participate in the Mass! Youth Group starts Wednesday night at 6pm. Please join us for dinner and class. If you can t make it at 6 no worries come when you can, grab some dinner and join your group. ~ Casting Crowns Concert ~ Any kids 6th-12th grades that are interested in attending the Casting Crowns concert on Oct 7, please RSVP to Mandy by Sept 21 to get your ticket. We will leave at 5:00pm, have dinner in Billings and go to the concert at 7pm. We have a collection of old RE books and confirmation banners downstairs at St. Mary s and the backroom at. 5 Stewardship ~ All people are God s stewards, because everything that exists belongs to God Heavenly Father, September is a month that offers hope for things to come: our daily life has a new rhythm, there are new beginnings and new encounters, and a new energy is seen in the parish community. In this month of accelerating activities, keep us mindful that we live for Christ and not for ourselves. Give us the strength and the wisdom to be Doers of Your Word, and not just listeners; to be good stewards of the Gospel each and every day. In this month of transition help us find a deeper spiritual balance in our lives that takes time for you, listens to the prompting of your Spirit and give us hope that the body of Christ has well begun the transformation of a troubled world. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. 6 ~Gospel Reflection~ Sometimes the Sunday readings bring peace and consolation. Other times they come as a swift kick in the pants. Today s readings definitely fall in the latter category. In the Gospel from St. Mark, Jesus begins to instruct the Apostles in what was ahead for Him and for them. Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it. In Peter s worldly way of thinking, Jesus should not have to suffer and for that matter, neither should Peter. But, rebuking Peter strongly, Jesus indicates He meant exactly what He said earlier. What s more, He was inviting Peter, and all of us, to join him in this way of life that is costly and self-sacrificing. Why? Isn t Jesus all about love? Of course He is. He is love. And Jesus shows us by His example that real love requires toughness as much as tenderness. Our second reading teaches that real faith in Him is displayed through service or works. In fact, this passage goes so far as to state that faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. These readings make it clear that faith and love are not alive in us until they are demonstrated through service to others for the sake of the Gospel. Service of any kind will involve some self-denial. But when I embrace this way of life, I have the joy of knowing my faith and love are real. By laying down my life for Him, I gain a life that is really worth living. Help us witness to the sanctity of every human life by scheduling an hour per week (if possible) to be a peaceful, prayerful presence in front of Planned Parenthood s abortion clinic in Billings Heights, which draws girls and young women from all over eastern Montana as well as from Wyoming and the Dakotas. We need at least two people praying at all times from 6 am to 8 pm in front of this facility during the 40 days of the campaign. 7 In the Area & Diocese ~Abuse Survivors Meeting~ All known survivors of abuse are invited to attend an informal meeting with Bishop Michael Warfel to discuss and address questions related to the sexual abuse of minors in the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings.
