Parents should call the rectory at least four weeks in advance, and must attend instructions, which are held on the third Thursday of the month. Church Law requires that only Catholics in good standing are eligible to be Godparents. No Baptisms will be scheduled during Lent. Anointing of the Sick: We offer this sacrament to those who are seriously ill, at home or in the hospital. We urge you to contact the office before someone goes to the hospital for an operation. (A priest may not be available later). Ministry of the Sick: Holy Communion will be brought to the sick, upon request. The bedridden or chronically ill can be placed on the Eucharistic Ministers visitation schedule. Wedding: Engaged couples must make arrangements in person, at the office at least six months in advance. Parish Membership: We welcome all new members to our parish. Please register at the office, by phone or in person. Registration forms are available at the entrances to the Churches. Also, please notify the office if your address has changed or if you would like to be added to the weekly envelope system. Saint Christopher and Saint Patrick Collections Regular Collection $4, Special Collection $1, Rectory & Office Renovation Project So far we have had very little response to our plea to parishioners to support the rectory and parish office upgrading at our Buchanan location. The renovations needed for both the rectory and the parish office are extensive therefore expensive. If you contribute $1, or more your name will be inscribed on a plaque and placed in our new offices. Thus far some parishioners have donated a total of over $7, All donation amounts are welcomed and appreciated, large or small. If you have any suggestions for fundraising events or organizations or businesses that might like to help with this project, please speak to Fr. George. Church of the Holy Spirit on Comprond Road in Cortlandt Manor is celebrating Columbus Day with a special Mass in Italian on Saturday, October 8 at 11:00 am. Espresso & Pastries to follow the Mass. Holy Name of Mary will be holding a Rummage Sale on Sat, Oct. 8 from 9:00 to 4:00 and on Sun, Oct. 9 from 9:00 to 3:00. All proceeds to benefit ACTS/NY retreat expenses and scholarships. WORD FOR TWENTY-SEVEN SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:3-4 The prophet Habakkuk cries out despairingly to God because of the state Jerusalem has fallen into. He asks why God does nothing to stop the violence and misery. God assures him that a time will come when only the just and faithful will live. Second Reading: 2 Timothy 1:6-8, Paul writes to Timothy from prison and urges him to continue to spread the gospel without fear or shame. He also tells Timothy to draw upon the strength of the Holy Spirit to help him face the hardships he will encounter while preaching. Gospel: Luke 17:5-10 The disciples ask Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus replies that faith the size of a mustard seed could transplant a sycamore, indicating that a person either has faith, strong and complete, or none at all. Jesus also explains that a servant will not receive gratitude for simply following his master s orders. In the same way, we are all God s servants doing no more than our duty when we obey God s commands.

VIGÉSIMO SEPTIMO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO Hasta cuándo, Señor, pediré auxilio, sin que me escuches?... Ante mí no hay más que asaltos y violencia, y surgen rebeliones y desórdenes. En este Domingo del Respeto a la Vida el profeta Habacuc se hace eco angustioso a lo largo de dos mil seiscientos años: Por qué me dejas ver la injusticia y te quedas mirando la opresión?. En este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia nos lamentamos con Habacuc por los niños sin nacer y las personas mayores, por los inmigrantes que no son bienvenidos y los refugiados que son rechazados, por los prisioneros y los drogadictos, por las personas abrumadas con enfermedades y discapacidades corporales, mentales y espirituales. Auméntanos la fe, decimos al unísono con los apóstoles. Pero la respuesta de Jesús nos desafía vigorosamente: Si tuvieran fe, aunque fuera tan pequeña como una semilla de mostaza, las realidades los obedecerían. Pablo nos dice: Te recomiendo que reavives el don de Dios que recibiste... Porque el Señor no nos ha dado un espíritu de temor, sino de fortaleza, de amor y de moderación. Si nos hacemos eco de las palabras del Evangelio: no somos más que siervos, Pablo nos corrige así: No te avergüences, pues, de dar testimonio de nuestro Señor.
