2 FROM THE DESK OF FR. SOTERI SIXTY MINUTES Sixty minutes is the time we spend watching some genuinely good, interesting and educational programs on Television. Sixty minutes is the time we spend watching one half or one third of a football or baseball game on television. Sixty minutes is the time we spend watching our favorite detective, comedy, or variety show on the tube. Sixty minutes is the time some spend going to and from work. It s less than the time we take to go shopping for something we really need or want. Sixty minutes is less than the time it takes us to read a good book. Sixty minutes is more than the time most of us take (in one day, in one week, in one month, in one year) to read the Good Book. Sixty minutes is the time it takes to write a letter to the editor about something which concerns us. Sixty minutes is the time we spend being mad and frustrated about something which concerns us but about which we do nothing except get mad and frustrated. Sixty minutes is the time it takes to visit a sick or shut-in friend or acquaintance. Sixty minutes of peace and quiet in the form of silent prayer and meditation each week provides strength, guidance, insights, and a measure of peace. Sixty minutes spent doing something for someone else helps us feel like a million dollars. Sixty minutes is a long, long time for a hungry child awaiting dinner. Sixty minutes is a short, short time in the years of life. And yet we only have so many periods of sixty minutes allotted to each of us. So our use of them becomes in Christian language a question of Stewardship. Sixty minutes worth of income, one fortieth of one s average weekly income, is more that many people give to the Church with which they are affiliated. Sixty minutes worth of time each week is more than most people give to the Parish of which they are members. Imagine what could be done if everyone gave at least sixty minutes of weekly income and sixty minutes time out of the week s 10,080 minutes to the Church of St. Stefanos.

4 November 2016 GOYA and GREEK SCHOOL NEWS GOYA Newsletter On October 14 th 16 th we hosted our 4 th annual St Stefanos Volleyball Tournament with 9 parishes in attendance and 15 teams. We received many compliments from so many attendees. What an amazing weekend! We are teaching our children to appreciate the freedom and the love that is surrounding them today and understand that for them it, people sacrificed their lives. On October 28th we are also honoring our Greek Flag and we also give thanks to the Panagia, Agia Skepi, whom Osios Andrew saw in Blahernas spreading her arms to protect the Greek people from their enemies. 7 PHILOPTOCHOS POST Philoptochos' first bake sale of the year benefitting St Stefanos took place on October 2, Thanks to all of the ladies who shopped, baked, packaged and organized and to those parishioners who purchased items. Our next bake sale will be for Thanksgiving on Sunday, November 20, where koulourakia, kourambiedes and finikia will be available. We will also be pulling the turkey raffle winners. Please buy your turkey raffle tickets after church. See Thelma Maragos or Doris Shearer. Our Philoptochos ladies helped with the gyro luncheon on Saturday, October 15, 2016, for the GOYA Volleyball Tournament. Thanks to all of the ladies who came out to support our youth and St Stefanos. Philoptochos also hosted an artoclasia and memorial on Sunday, October 23 for Philoptochos Sunday. Our next meeting will be Sunday, November 27, 2016, after church in the Educational Building. All are invited to attend. Our annual Christmas Party will be Saturday, December 17, 2016, location still to be determined. We will also be participating in the parish Christmas Pageant on Sunday, December 18, Philoptochos-"the friends of the poor"-will be making and delivering Christmas baskets for our parish shut-ins and female veterans living at CW Bill Young VA. We are continuing to write letters to Holy Cross seminarians from the Metropolis of Atlanta and parish college students. Please let us know if you would like your college student to receive monthly letters as well! See Maria Gregory. Philoptochos has many different events and projects each year--we are sure that there will be something to interest each and every one in our parish. Please join us and see! Next meeting November 27 after church! CASA DONATIONS REQUESTED The St Stephanos Ladies Philoptochos is sponsoring a charitable drive for the Casa program this Month. Please bring your donations of various items for children and infants to the Church on any Sunday ending on Sunday November 20th. Suggestions are disposable diapers of any brand, infant and children s clothing, baby wipes, lotion, tooth brushes, and anything for the care and welfare of infants and children. Your help and donations are deeply appreciated by the families who need our help.

8 ARCHANGEL MICHAEL AWARDS, AGAPE and more 2016 Archangel Michael Awards The Archangel Michael Award is awarded to those individuals who are singled out for their dedication and works for our church. His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios honors the recipients with this beautiful medallion.
