CHARLOTTE, NC PH: C o m m u n i t y B u l l e t i n ALL Girls Choir members Mandatory Meeting Sunday, October 9 th in the Fellowship Hall Girls in grades 6 through 12 who would like to join are encouraged to attend. We do not have regular rehearsals, so this meeting is important. On October 9 th, please leave Liturgy to attend the meeting when the sermon begins. Church Music Ministry Sunday On Sunday, October 2 nd, we will recognize our women and men who have heard and responded to the Lord s invitation to be church musicians: that is, parish chanters and choir singers. As church musicians, these people represent the laity in the liturgical dialogue of our worship services. In glory to God, the Holy Trinity, they commit themselves to learning the hymns of our Orthodox faith, understanding the sequence of our liturgical worship, and actively offering their prayers in song to enhance the beauty of our worship. Better Late than Never Book Club Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 25 th to discuss The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton. The Book Club meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Starbucks on Rea Rd., in the Trader Joe s shopping center. The group is always welcoming new members. December s pick is A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote and A Child s Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 13 th. Premarital Ministry Journey of Marriage Couples getting married in the Metropolis of Atlanta are asked to attend an interactive and informative seminar, entitled The Journey of Marriage as part of their preparation. The next seminar will be offered at Holy Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, October 1 st. Go to to register or to see for other offerings and locations. YAM Young Adult Ministry Calling all year olds Dates are still being finalized. Watch for communications about future events. Parish Council The October Parish Council meeting will be held on October 24, 6:00 p.m. If you would like an item added to the agenda, please contact the office by Wednesday, October 19 th. Becoming Orthodox During the three sessions, the priests answer questions that non-orthodox people have about the faith and help them understand what it means to enter the Orthodox faith through Holy Chrismation should they choose to do so. For those who plan to be chrismated and cannot make the class, appointments can be arranged to fit your schedule. This class is also appropriate for those already Orthodox who would like to learn or review the basics of the faith. Topics include an overview of church history, understanding Holy Tradition, the development of The Creed, the nature of the Holy Trinity and more. Young at Heart For Our 55+ Members Members still being accepted. Guests always welcomed. Next meeting will be October 13 th with social time at 5:30 and dinner served at 6:00. Bring your bandanas for Country Night fun. We ll be taking sign-ups for the Myrtle Beach Trip November 15 to 17. Contact Chrystala Paraskeva for more information on the trip. Don t forget that Fr. Seraphim will be available from 4:30 p.m. to answer your questions from the Orthodox Question Box.. Military Ministry Honors Veteran s Day NOV. 13 Active service personnel and Veterans are asked to mark their calendars for the annual tribute on November 13 following the Divine Liturgy. The tribute will include a memorial service for our reposed members and a special coffee hour reception. We would like to feature a display of photos and/or memorabilia. 5 JOIN THE ST. NEKTARIOS TEAM Audio/Visual Ministry Positions are open on the Sanctuary Audio/Visual Operator Team. Duties include: launch the A/V system; start and record webcasts; monitor the audio during the service; play CDs through the system; shut down the A/V system. Operators would need to arrive to church on Sunday before Matins begins. For more information or to sign up, please contact Fr. Seraphim Dedes at Office Volunteer There are several Reception Desk volunteer slots open. Scheduling is flexible. Weekly assignments can be full days or half days. Duties include: General clerical tasks, ie: answering the phones, distributing mail, filing, copying, etc. Perks include: Working with and assisting congenial, professional, intelligent, friendly, funny and thoughtful office staffers. Unlimited free coffee & tea.
