We profess who we are by our shared belief and understanding of the Gospel. As people called to conversion, we come together to celebrate and bear witness to God s redemptive activity in our Lives. We live out this mission of Christ through prayer and worship and through our baptismal call, which challenges us to minister to and with others. This is how our Gospel Reading from St. John describes Jesus immediate response to when the woman accused of adultery is brought before Him. Immediately after this the Lord says, Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. In the original Greek the word used for bent down literally meant, stooped down. The word describes doing something that was considered very humbling; quite likely Jesus was trying to put the woman at ease, to identify with her. Jesus identifies with the woman, and He makes a gesture to let her know that. We often speak of seeing Jesus in others, in treating them in a way that reflects love and caring, not judgment. Blessed Mother Teresa (who will officially become a saint this coming September) once stated, I see Jesus in every human being. I say to myself, This is hungry Jesus. I must feed Him. Or This is sick Jesus who has leprosy and gangrene. I serve because I love Jesus. Stewardship calls us to show the same kind of love reflected by Jesus in the Gospel and in the words and actions of Mother Teresa. We, too, are called to find and see Jesus in all we meet, to be willing to humble ourselves if necessary to serve and care for them. There are ways we can do this among the ministries right here in our own faith community. Copyright 2015 Catholic Stewardship Consultants, "ONCE ONE CHOOSES TO BECOME A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST... STEWARDSHIP IS NOT AN OPTION" The Lord has done great things for us! Throughout salvation history the Lord's intervention in human affairs shaped our world. The first reading today recalls the flight of the Israelites from Egypt and the destruction of Pharaoh's army. The powerful right arm of God showed no mercy to the Egyptians. In the Gospel Jesus shows mercy to the woman caught in adultery and uses it as a lesson to the scribes and Pharisees that each of us can become trapped in sin. May we turn to our Lord and seek his mercy and show mercy to each other. Bulletin Bits courtesy of Diocese of Wichita St. Peter s Parish 3

Our next blood drive will be Monday, March 21 from 2-7 p.m. in the church basement. A parish of our size should be donating much more than we currently do. If you are a regular donor, maybe you could recruit a new donor, say a family member or friend? If you ve never donated blood, please consider doing so. Share the gift of life. Amen. Pope St. John XXIII What are the Scrutinies? These Rites are celebrated to help deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (RCIA 141). The Rites of Scrutiny are meant to uncover, and then heal, all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the elects hearts and to bring out through repentance all that is upright, strong, and good. Three Scrutinies are celebrated in the parish community on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent, after the homily. Please keep the Catechumen and Candidates in your thoughts and prayers as they are in their final preparations to be received in the Catholic Church at The Easter Vigil. Catechumen: Bree Sanders; Candidates: Thea Britton, Scott Hassler, Evan Jarrold, Mark Landes, Leann Leavene, Anya Rivera, Emely Seaton, Gary Seaton, Dana Wilders. 4 St. Peter s Parish

ONLY IN HEAVEN WILL WE SEE HOW From the Parish Liturgy Team MUCH WE OWE TO THE POOR FOR In a couple weeks, we will celebrate The Paschal Triduum with Christians from all around the world. The word Triduum is Latin for Three Days. For Catholics, the Triduum is a three day continuous liturgy made up of the Evening Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday, the Celebration of the Lord s Passion on Good Friday, the Great Vigil in the Holy Night on Holy Saturday, and the Resurrection of the Lord on Easter Sunday morning. This liturgy is the pinnacle and culmination of our religion and Catholic faith. It is the most solemn and most important liturgy of the entire Church year, and together, these three days (this one liturgy) construct the Paschal Mystery of Jesus passion, death, and resurrection. HELPING US TO LOVE GOD BETTER BECAUSE OF THEM. - BLESSED MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA The Sacred Triduum is rich with ritual moments including the Mandatum (the Washing of the Feet) and the transfer of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday, the proclamation of the Passion and the Adoration of the Cross on Good Friday, the new fire, the reading of scriptures, the blessing and lighting of the Easter candle, the blessing of the water, the initiation of the elect, the renewal of baptismal promises, the sprinkling of the assembly, and the singing of Alleluia - not heard since before Ash Wednesday - at the Easter Vigil. We are called to follow and share in Jesus s life, suffering, death, and resurrection. He gave his life so that we might live forever. 12 Hours to Watch and Pray for Religious Liberty T he Little Sisters of the Poor at our Jeanne Jugan Center in Greater Kansas City extend an invitation to join them in praying on Tuesday, March 15 for their lawsuit which will be heard by the Supreme Court on March 23 rd in Washington, D.C. The oral arguments include 7 religious groups representing hundreds of other religious organizations seeking to protect freedom of conscience and religious liberty which is being threatened by the government s contraceptive mandate. The day includes Eucharistic Adoration with devotions from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in our Chapel at 8745 James A Reed Road, Kansas City, MO Mass is at 11:00 a.m. For more information call Sr. Joseph Marie at St. Peter s Parish 5

6 St. Peter s School News I t s always a busy time at St. Peter s, but particularly so when we celebrate our annual auction, this year s Derby. We are so very grateful to every person who contributed in any way to the success of the largest PTA fundraiser of the year in particular, kudos and gratitude to the co-chairs, Amy Cusumano and Sarah Ralph, who led a fabulous team. It was fun to see so many parishioners and former parents, grandparents, as well as family and friends of St. Peter s Saturday evening. We are thankful for such incredible support. Students got to start their Spring Break a bit early, as school dismissed at Noon last Thursday; classes will resume on March 21, for Holy Week. There will be no school on Good Friday nor on Easter Monday. The Iowa Assessments (formerly known as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills) will be taken in April this year, a change from our typical March testing. St. Peter s School will welcome accreditation visitors Tuesday, April 5, as part of our Diocesan Accreditation Visits. We look forward to sharing our school and parish community with these special guests. The trophies brought into school last Monday, after City Championship games last weekend, certainly are a testament to the success of our girls and boys basketball teams! We are proud of our students! Finally, we have sent information about Kindergarten Screenings to parents of incoming kindergarten students; however, we would like to remind you that if you have an incoming kindergartner for the school year, please call school secretary, Mrs. Sally Euston, at to schedule an appointment for March 30 or March 31. Collection boxes have been placed in the front of the main church, next to the food collection basket, and in the school as well. This initiative takes old or unused crayons and recycles them into new crayons. The new crayons are then donated back to schools, hospitals, art programs and other organizations invested in young children. Thank you, in advance, for your support. St. Therese Little Flower Thanks You On behalf of the HOPE committee at St. Therese Little Flower, we want to thank all of you from St. Peter s for helping make the Benefit Concert on February27 a success.
