2 Gathering Music The Music of Taizé For those new to this unique form of musical prayer, a few notes of introduction may be helpful. The songs are not meant to be sung as hymns, but rather as a series of prayers. Each chant is repeated many times over. The hope is that you will find the repetition helpful, not only to learn the chant, but to allow it to become a prayer of the heart. Collect for Purity Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. We praise you and thank you, O Lord. God the Holy Spirit, you make our bodies the temple of your presence. We praise you and thank you, O Lord. Grant to all who seek your guidance, and to all who are lonely, anxious, or despondent, a knowledge of your will and an awareness of your presence. Guide our community with your wisdom, that we may fully know the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors, and choose to act on their behalf. Bless all who advocate for the needs of the poor. Chant Peace I leave Bless all who minister to the suffering, granting them wisdom and skill, sympathy and patience. Grant to the dying peace and a holy death, and uphold by the grace and consolation of your Holy Spirit those who are bereaved. Restore to wholeness whatever is broken by our failure to forgive or to love: in our lives, in our nation, and in the world. You are the Lord who does wonders. If you desire to come up for a blessing instead of communion, indicate this by crossing your arms on your chest. Gluten-free communion wafers are available upon request; let the clergy know if you require these. At the 7:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services, we offer an opportunity for prayers for yourself or a loved one for healing, support, or thanksgiving during communion at the altar rail for the early service and in the southwest corner of the church for the later service.
