THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Reading Isaiah 43:1-7 Here s what God who made you says: Don t be afraid, for I hold you in my heart. I know exactly who you are. I have called you by name. You are mine. When you walk through deep water, I will be with you. When the waters of the rivers rise, they won t overwhelm you. When the flames are lapping at your heels, you will not be burned. I am your God, the one who save you. I will pay any price for you, because you are precious to me, and I love you. Do not be afraid. I will gather all your people to me, everyone who bears my name. I created you to show my glory, and you do. Ascribe to God, you heavenly beings, ascribe to God glory and strength. Ascribe due honor to God s holy Name; worship the Most High in the beauty of holiness. The voice of God is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; God is upon the mighty waters. The voice of God is a powerful voice; the voice of God is a voice of splendor. REFRAIN The voice of God breaks the cedar trees; God breaks the cedars of Lebanon; God makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. Betsy Hooper-Rosebrook Renewal of Baptismal Vows BCP Page 292 Prayers of the People Leader: Your response to each prayer is, We pray for God to guide us, our leaders, and our world in the ways of wisdom and peace. We pray for God to guard us from danger and to protect those who are most vulnerable: children, the elderly, people without shelter or food, and those who are sick, especially those we name now. We pray for God s glory to shine in our lives, that in the world we may be bright witnesses to God s love, mercy, and justice. We pray for God to help us grow as God s beloved children and turn to Jesus with all our joys and sorrows. We pray for those we love but see no longer, that having been through the deep waters of death, they now may be held close to the heart of God. The Officiant offers a concluding prayer. The children return and rejoin their families for the Eucharist at the greeting of peace. The Peace Celebrant: The peace of the Lord be always with you. People: And also with you. All members and friends of Saint Mark s Parish are invited to attend the meeting to see where we ve been in mission and ministry during the past year and where we are going in the year to come. Annual Meeting elects new Vestry members and delegates to Diocesan Convention; receives the Stewardship, Treasurer s, and Rector s reports; recognizes retiring Vestry members; and celebrates the mission and ministry of the Parish. All members 16 years and older who regularly have attended the worship of the parish for at least one year are eligible to vote at the meeting and are encouraged to attend and participate. Childcare is available. Reminder: All Ministry Leaders should look in the mail or their for a request for an update on the 2018 activities of their ministry that will be included in the Annual Report.

6 Seeds for Haiti We're collecting seed packets to take to our partners at Saint Marguerite Church & School in Latournelle, Haiti until February 3. Good choices are tomatoes, zucchini, squash, beans, peas, melons, and okra. If possible, please get seeds labeled as non-hybrid or heirloom; these plants will produce seeds that can be saved for the next growing season. Spirituality and Dementia: A Conversation with the Very Rev. Tracey Lind & Emily Ingalls In 2016, Episcopal priest Tracey Lind was diagnosed with early stage dementia. This hasn't stopped her from fully immersing herself in what life has to offer and what she has to give; most recently, her ministry has extended to include the spiritual insights and lessons she's gained from a life complicated by dementia. She and her spouse will be speaking on Thursday, January 24 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at MonteCedro, 2212 El Molino Ave., Altadena. Seating limited; RSVP to borourke@montecedro.org.
