Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time August 28 Sirach 3:17-18, 20, Psalm 68 Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a Luke 14:1, 7-14 Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 4 Wisdom 9:13-18b Psalm 90 Philemon 9-10, Luke 14:25-33 Fussing over table manners can seem as unimportant and antiquated in our society today as cultivating an attitude of humility. Both of these qualities are supported in today s scriptures. Sirach holds up humility as a virtue that will make us more loved than being a giver of gifts, and will bring us favor with God (Sirach 3:18). Jesus sounds a similar note in words aimed at the Pharisees. It may also help to know he has just healed a man on the Sabbath. The theme of lifting up the lowly and casting down the mighty or those who have pretensions of deserving honor can be heard behind his words at the dinner party. Let God exalt us rather than doing the job ourselves. What we can do is to imitate the generosity of God by inviting to our table those who can t reward us. Then we are preparing for that grand party on the heavenly Mount Zion, when all will gather, along with the angels, in our Sunday best to celebrate the living God and our savior, Jesus, who has brought us into a new covenant through his blood, which speaks so eloquently, crying out for mercy. On August 28 we will be singing the Mass of Wisdom which begins on page 10 in the Missalette. On September 4 we will be singing the Missa Pacem which begins on number 271 of the Blue Gather. 3 Dear Family of St. Teresa, Before we surrender summer completely we have one more fun gathering to attend on Friday September 2 nd at Stricker s Grove from 5-10 p.m. our parish family of St. Teresa and St. William with St. Catharine will hold our annual parish picnic. This is a wonderful evening of friends and good food as we say goodbye to summer until next year. 5 Thinking About Becoming Catholic? If you, your spouse, or someone else you know has an interest in learning about the Catholic Faith, the parish region of St. Teresa and St. William offers a Christian Initiation process, known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) that will help you to discern (prayerfully consider) where you are going on your faith journey. We can begin meeting anytime! The first phase of the RCIA is a series of informal meetings where we share our faith journeys with each other, and answer questions/concerns from our Inquirers (those seeking). If you have an interest in learning about becoming Catholic or if you are already Catholic and need a refresher course, call Deacon Dave at (513) x 125, or Marti Barnes, St. William Parish at (513) All are welcome. Centennial Celebrations Save the Date: The Centennial Mass will be on October 9, 2016 at 9:30 am, celebrated by Archbishop Schnurr with a reception immediately following in the Undercroft. Everyone is invited to attend. More information to follow. There will be NO Mass on October 9, The next Centennial Meeting will be Monday, Sept. 12 at 7:00pm in the undercroft. Everyone is welcome to attend Church Tours RCIA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We need assistance in all areas of the RCIA ministry and ask that you pray to see if God is inviting you to be with our Inquirers and Candidates during their time of preparation. Our needs include Sponsors (those persons who walk the journey of faith with an Inquirer or Candidate who is preparing to become Catholic); team members to provide support to our Sponsors, to coordinate prayer letters, to provide hospitality, willing to be trained as catechists for our Monday evening gatherings, and to provide guidance each Sunday to our Inquirers and Candidates by helping them Break Open the Word of God with those preparing to become Catholic. Training and guidance will be provided! You will not be left alone! They say that the team benefits as much as the participants! If you are interested or have questions, please call Deacon Dave Steinwert at the parish office RCIA ADAPTED FOR CHILDREN-VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) has provisions for the Christian Initiation of Children who have reached Catechetical Age (usually around the age of 7 years). The process for children follows much the same pattern as the adult process, and leads to Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. Children 7-years of age and older who have been baptized Catholic or in another faith tradition, are able to go through this process also. If you are interested in working with children preparing to become Catholic as a sponsor or team member, please call Deacon Dave Steinwert at the parish office. Training and ongoing support will be provided. All volunteers must be Virtus trained. Mark your calendars!
