2 Saint Bernadette Catholic Parish, in the heart of Lakewood, Colorado, is an inclusive Christian community, committed to the teaching of Jesus Christ. We are strengthened by the Word of God and the Sacraments, guided by the Holy Spirit, and inspired by our patronesses the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Bernadette Soubirous, and Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. We aspire to live our faith through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and follow our Lord s command to call all to discipleship. My Dear St. Bernadette Family, Jesus invites us today to take a look at and learn from nature. A great summer time activity. If you get the chance, go out into the countryside, see the fields, watch the farmers, smell the livestock. God s gifts ought not be taken for granted. We learn from nature the way God works, often behind the scenes, quietly growing the kingdom. God nurtures us not only with food, but with sunshine, rain, beauty and quiet and with the Son, the church, the Scriptures and Sacraments. Often, though, so subtlety and consistently that we might just not notice and worse, not feel deep gratitude. The field and farmer are totally dependent on the moisture God sends. The young lamb cannot even survive on its own, let alone thrive. So, we too, are totally dependent on God. We depend not only on the things God gives us such as life, air, water, food, etc., but are also dependent on God s love, mercy and grace. Our Collect prayers says: without you mortal frailty can do nothing. Mortal frailty, that s us. We sing in the Psalm: Lord, it is good to give thanks to you. Indeed! With love, Fr. 3 St. Bernadette Capital Campaign Prayer Heavenly Father, we worship and adore you. We thank you for the generous gifts you have bestowed on us your servants. You have poured out your love on St. Bernadette Parish for over 70 years and we in return offer the service of our time, talent and treasure. Lord Jesus, we seek to renew and beautify our church, a sanctuary for those who seek comfort, guidance and truth. May this place of worship be a safe and holy refuge for those who seek You and your loving embrace. Holy Spirit pour out your fire upon us as we work together to accomplish these goals you have set before us. Give us strength, courage and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve You. We ask all this through the intercession of our Patronesses, Mary, our Mother, St. Bernadette and St. Kateri. AMEN. Dear God, Thank you for all the fathers and father-figures in this world and for the many ways you use them to lovingly guide others to Your heart. I ask that you would bless them and give them great joy and peace. May they see you and know You in new ways. Show them how much You love them and care about them. Guide their steps, use their hands, and make them a blessing to others as You continue to fulfill your special purpose for their lives.
