2 Come, Let Us Adore Him, Together. Whether you are here today as a founding member of the parish, a visitor, or a reluctant attendee, we welcome you and invite you to journey with us, our community of St. Edward. Thank you for responding to the invitation of the angels and the call God placed deep within your soul saying: come, let us adore Him. Angels, shepherds, magi, the rich and the poor answered that same call in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago. We call those gathered around Jesus, the Church. We go to a church because we are the church, we need each other, we re made to be together, and we re created to gather around our Creator, Savior, Joy, and Peace, who is Jesus Christ. After all, the song, based on Scripture, is Come, let us adore Him implying that we adore Him together, not one by one. We can celebrate something alone, we can mourn, cry, sing and dance alone but our joy immensely increased when we celebrate together and our sorrows softened when we mourn together. Prayer is the same. We can and should pray alone but prayer is also meant to be done together and the evidence of that is the increased peace and transformation that occurs when we pray together. Leaving the comfort of your home to go to church and pray with and for others is also a tremendous and much-needed act of love which strengthens our families and communities. In fact, our gathering together is so important that God even created one day of the week specifically for resting and uniting together with God and one another. Jesus Himself kept the commandment of keeping holy the Sabbath by going to the temple with his local community. Pope Francis tell us, you cannot be a Christian outside the Church, you cannot follow Jesus Christ without the Church, because the Church is our mother and makes us grow in love for Jesus Christ. As you have done today, please accept the invitation of the angels and the call God has placed deep within your soul to be with Him each day in prayer but to come together each Sunday as Church. Ya sea que usted esté aquí hoy como miembro de la parroquia, o como visitante o un asistente renuente, le damos la bienvenida y le invitamos a celebrar con nosotros, en esta nuestra comunidad de San Eduardo. Gracias por responder a la invitación de los ángeles y al llamado que Dios hizo en lo más profundo de su alma, diciendo: "vengan, vamos a adorarlo". Ángeles, pastores, reyes magos, ricos y pobres respondieron esa misma llamada en Belén hace 2,000 años. Llamamos a los reunidos alrededor de Jesús, la Iglesia. Vamos a una iglesia porque somos la iglesia, nos necesitamos unos a otros, estamos hechos para estar juntos, y hemos sido creados para reunirnos alrededor de nuestro Creador, Salvador, Alegría y Paz, que es Jesucristo. Después de todo, la canción, basada en las Escrituras, es "Vengan, vamos a adorarlo", lo que implica que lo adoramos juntos, no uno por uno. Podemos celebrar algo solos, podemos llorar, cantar y bailar solos, pero nuestra alegría aumenta enormemente cuando celebramos juntos y nuestras tristezas se suavizan cuando lloramos juntos. De hecho, nuestra reunión es tan importante que Dios creó un día de la semana específicamente para descansar y unirse con Dios y con los demás. Jesús mismo guardó el mandamiento de santificar el sábado yendo al templo con su comunidad local. El Papa Francisco nos dice, "no se puede ser cristiano fuera de la Iglesia, no se puede seguir a Jesucristo sin la Iglesia, porque la Iglesia es nuestra madre y nos hace crecer en amor por Jesucristo". Inviting Married Couples Thursday, January 7:30 p.m. Circle your calendar for an evening of Living Catholic Marriage, a series of topics to enrich marriage by helping husbands and wives communicate better and grow stronger in their faith. Altar Guild volunteers perform light housekeeping duties for the Church, such as washing the Holy vessels used in the Mass and tidying up the pews. The time commitment is one hour once a month: either on Monday or Friday. If you can help our faith community in this way, please contact Gabrielle Kirkman gsscolari@cox.net or (949) TIJUANA MINISTRY Every Thursday after the 8:15 a.m. Mass volunteers make approximately 300 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which are taken to Tijuana on Friday and distributed to the jail inmates, the homeless and needy. Feast of the Holy Innocents Thursday, December 28 At the 5:30 pm Mass on Thursday, December 28 all children who have died (through sickness, miscarriage, abortion, sickness or other causes) will be remembered. The community is invited to come and pray for these families. During the offertory there will be a procession with a flower offering. Everyone who has lost a child is invited to join the offertory procession and place a flower in the vase in the sanctuary in memory of their child. Needed: Ministers to Take Communion to the Sick and Homebound We need registered parishioners who are willing to take Holy Communion to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass due to age or illness. In bringing Holy Communion to the sick or aged, you minister to the whole person - body, mind and soul. The time commitment is approximately one to two hours per week, either during the week or on the weekend.
