Checks should be made out to Holy Trinity Parish with Food Pantry put on the Memo line, or put it in an envelope marked Food Pantry. Trash and Treasure Sale The great bargains and deals at Holy Trinity s Trash and Treasure Sale are here! This coming Saturday, June 5 th, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 6 th, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. find unbelievable steals at St. Mary s Academy, Hudson. 4 In case you missed his letter last weekend, here is what Father Bath wrote with respect to his retirement and the need for pastoral planning:. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Holy Trinity Parish: Recently I informed officials of the Diocese of Albany of my intention to retire from active ministry in late This past Tuesday Father George Brennan, pastor of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Copake Falls, and myself met with diocesan officials to discuss the future of the parishes in southern Columbia County after my retirement. In the midst of our conversation they told us that there were no priests available to fill my position when I leave. Southern Columbia County will have the service of only one full-time priest in the future. We were then given the mandate to initiate a pastoral planning process to evaluate and find solutions to the challenges that lie ahead. Father Brennan and I have decided to begin a series of meetings with members of our parish pastoral councils, parish finance committees, staff, and trustees. We will first gather pertinent information such as parish financial conditions, Mass attendance, staff, geographical locations of our worship sites, and the number and condition of buildings. Next we will propose and evaluate solutions to providing maximum service and ministry with limited clergy and personnel. Since we have over a year to reach decisions and implement them, we have every reason to hope that our results will be sound and in the best interest of all concerned. Along the way we intend to have some open forums so that all interested parishioners may have opportunities to ask questions and share input. As we try to develop a sound pastoral plan, please pray that the Lord will inspire and guide our deliberative process. Please pray, also, that the Lord will bless our diocese with an increase of priests, deacons, and those in religious life. Sincerely yours in Christ, Father Winston Bath Pastor The Feast of St. Anthony This year the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua occurs on Saturday, June 13 th. To honor this beloved saint we will have a Mass on that day at 9:00 a.m. At the end of Mass we will continue the tradition of the blessing and distribution of St. Anthony s Bread a custom which began over a century ago when a French baker distributed loaves of bread to the poor because of favors received through the requested intercession of St. Anthony. This custom, in its present form, involves blessing small loaves of bread on the Feast of St. Anthony, and then making them available to the faithful, who in turn leave a donation to be given to the poor. The loaves are then taken home to be used or shared at a meal. Please take a loaf and leave a donation for the poor. Brown Our 2015 Bishop s Appeal As of this past weekend we have received approximately 300 commitments totaling $63, toward this year s Bishop s Appeal. The average gift is still approximately $200. B & S Wingert Grace Alvarez Reflections on today s Scriptures Most Holy Trinity Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. It's easy to take this formula for granted. Every time we attend Mass, we make the sign of the cross and say "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." Many of us also make the sign of the cross before meals or to begin our personal prayers. Because we are so used to hearing this Trinitarian reference to the one God in three Persons, we might tend to gloss over its significance. But today, on the feast of the Most Holy Trinity, we stop to remind ourselves what this really means. We might begin by remembering that Christianity is absolutely unique in its belief in the Trinity. No other religion claims such a remarkable doctrine--that God is one in three. And it's important to understand that Christians didn't make this up; it was revealed to us directly from Christ himself. As we hear in today's Gospel, and elsewhere throughout the four Gospels, Jesus taught about this mysterious union of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we follow what he taught. Perhaps the most beautiful part of this great mystery of God's nature is what it means for us. We believe in a God whose very essence is made up of loving relationships between three divine Persons. It follows that, as people made in God's image (cf. Gn 1:27), we are to live in loving relationships. We are made to love: to love God, to love one another, and to love ourselves. Our God is not a force, a power, or an idea. Our God is a personal God who loves each of us and calls us to do the same.
