4 Harstine Island Community Choir s concert, A Celtic Christmas, brings the homey feeling of the holidays as celebrated in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Isle of Mann and Brittany to the intimate settings of three local venues in Mason County. Experience the mystery, joy, and awe of the Christmas story with familiar choral chestnuts like The First Noel and O Little Town of Bethlehem along with musical jewels such as Breton Carol and Ireland s Darkest Midnight in December. Immerse yourself in true Celtic Music as Olympia s Burren Boys accompany the choir with authentic instruments, performing reels and jigs that will set your toes tapping and your spirit soaring. Mark you calendars now to be with friends and neighbors who join Harstine Island Community Choir s holiday festivities singing timeless and favorite carols that will resonate in your heart throughout the holiday season. Thursday Bible Study and Eucharist 9:00 am The Thursday Eucharist is changing in response to St. Hugh members asking for a weekly adult bible study. Starting at 9 a.m. with about 30 minutes devoted to the Gospel lesson for the next. We will then close with prayers and the Eucharist. The service will conclude by 10:30 for choir practice. We will look at various translations and commentaries to enhance our hearing and understanding of the lessons and sermon. Call it a sharper focus on the Good News. You can prepare for it in advance or come as you are, but know you will be welcome either way. The Bible lessons for the following week can be found online at They are also listed in the News and Views. Our Lectionary is organized in a 3-year cycle (A, B, C). Advent begins on Nov. 30 when we move to Year B. Year A s Gospel Lessons came from the gospel of Matthew. Most of the Gospel lessons during Year B will be from The Gospel of Mark Questions? Ask your clergy for more detail. 4
5 Labyrinth Wedding It was a beautiful day for the 20 September labyrinth wedding of Thomas Moy and Yelena Burnett. Tom is the son of James and Mabel Moy, and when he and Yelena visited with his parents at Christmas last year, they determined that the labyrinth at St. Hugh was the setting of their choice for their September 2014 wedding. In December, Vicki met with Tom, his brother Jim and his wife Karen to discuss preliminary wedding plans. Unfortunately Yelena was unable to attend the initial meeting as she had to fly back to Los Angeles for work. During the year, s flowed between Tom and Yelena in Los Angeles and Vicki in Allyn. Their desire was to have a very simple but elegant wedding on the labyrinth, weather permitting. They wanted the natural beauty of the surroundings to be the flowers and decorations for their ceremony. Rev. James Moy, father of the groom, was the officiant and Mabel Moy, mother of the groom read some beautiful compositions developed by the bride and groom. At the appointed time, an usher led the couples to appointed places on the labyrinth until all couples were in place, forming a semi-circle, on different labyrinth rings, around the altar. Rev. James Moy processed in and took his place and then Tom ushered his mother in to take her place. Tom then took his place. Yelena, beautiful in a full-length teal gown, was ushered in by her mother Natasha. Natasha took her place and Yelena took hers next to Tom. It was a small, intimate gathering that witnessed the sacrament of marriage between Tom and Yelena; eighteen people in all, some traveling from Los Angeles and some from the Seattle area helped the happy couple celebrate and all were invited to be part of the wedding party in the photographs. A reception at the Selah Inn on Hood Canal followed the wedding. Vicki 5
6 Our Youth Group has prepared Prayer Rocks like these pictured. They sent some of these to the community in Darrington and have now prepared and prayed over some of them for your community. We placed them on our Altar at Eucharist yesterday and dedicated our Eucharist to your community. May your youth or other leaders use them to extend our prayers for peace and love to any one in need. Peace and God's continued blessings during this time of tragedy. Peace, The Rev Jim Neal, Priest Paddy Gilson and Carol Kennedy, Youth Leaders Response from St. Phillips Episcopal in Marysville for the Prayer Rocks sent by our Youth Group. Dear Fr. Neal, Paddy, Carol and St. Hugh Youth, The prayer rocks are awesome and on behalf of St. Philip s, I would like to thank you all for them. We had great All Saints services today with remembrance of our Baptism at both services. I placed the prayer rocks in a shallow basket near the font and our Pastor, Terry Kyllo explained what they were and that you sent them to us. Our young people who attend Marysville-Pilchuck High School got them as well as most of our parishioners. This was a very loving gesture on your part and I ask that you thank your young people for all of the wonderful work they did on rocks and for the prayers over each one. Thanks very much for praying for Marysville and the Tulalip Tribes and for showing your love for us in this way. Peace,Liz Van Dyke Admin Assistant St. Philip s 6

Thank you! New Address & Phone # Carol Kennedy 117 Sereno Circle Dr. Bremerton, WA We fretted about the weather expected a downpour had a day that was just fine! All our St. Hugh folks, men and women, once more did a terrific job of setting up, and taking down. Before that were many weeks of work creating the craft items, sewing, then last minute baking! How many years have we done this? It comes so naturally now. Working together for the pleasure of seeing our customers happy faces, seeing the funds come in that will be soon given to the community needs...we definitely had a big success once more! Thanks to EVERY ONE of you whatever you did to help, the prayers, the clean up after, made it come together in such a wonderful way. Thanks to chairs VICKI BETSINGER and BARBARA BERTSCH for their outstanding leadership. Thanks to Garby for baking the fragrant scones til they sold out by noon! Thanks for the stone soup downstairs brought for workers lunch by Vicki. I could go on and on...you all know what you did, and I do thank you so much. And now to the November 10th ECW meeting, when we gather to spread the funds in outreach to our community. That is surely the frosting on the cake of our 2 sales this year. I repeat: 8
