2 WORSHIP Advent Penance Service Holy Name Parish will host the Advent Penance Service on Tuesday, December 18th at 5:30p.m. for Holy Name, Holy Cross and St. Paul s Parishes. Many priests will be available for confessions in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. Advent Reflection and Bible Study All are welcomed to join Sr. Melinda and Deacon Mike on Tuesday s after Adoration for 45 minutes, beginning December 4 th in the Cry Room. Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory ( ). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and it to the partners who have s, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners always welcome. Please contact Ann at the rectory, , with your interest. Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe - Vocations Today we hail Christ as our king, the victor over the power of death. This Jesus, who loves us and freed us from our sins by His own blood, and who by Baptism has made us a royal nation of priests in the service of His God and Father. He who is King, continues to choose men and women to serve as priests, sisters, brothers or deacons, so that the faithful may know him, love Him, and serve Him as well. 3 Collections for November 10 & 11, 2018 total $6,649.85! We appreciate your support! Sr. Melinda continues seeking DONATIONS of individually wrapped butterscotch or peppermint candies, Tootsie rolls, lollipops, granola, and packs of peanut butter crackers for the candy bags that our parish is providing to Holy Cross to enhance their Sandwich Ministry for the homeless. Any of these items that you can provide is warmly appreciated! SERVICE Concerning Hospital Visits If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. David, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit. LOAVES AND FISHES On the first Monday of every month, members of our parish gather at South Congregational Church on Maple Street to serve a meal to the hungry of our city. We are sure you will find it to be a positive and rewarding experience, and it is so organized, it won t take a lot of your time. American Chop Suey is the meal we serve, and you are welcome to use your own recipe. If you can help with the cooking or serving, please call Ann at the rectory, , or if you decide to come and don t have time to call ahead, that s fine, too. Meals can either be dropped off between 4:15 and 4:30p.m., or stay and serve and you ll be on your way home in an hour. EDUCATION There are no Religious Education classes this weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Enjoy!! An Important Notice from the Diocese for Former Employees The Diocese of Sprinfield has important news for former employees who are vested in the frozen Diocese Pension Plan, and are not currently collecting their pension. If you or someone you know worked for the Diocese and terminated prior to 1/1/2018, with five years of service, you could qualify. Ascensus representative Donna Staryarsky is administering contact with former employees. Ascensus is the successor firm to Pension Associates and Donna has many years of involvement with the Diocesan pension plan. An information notice is scheduled to be mailed to the former employee s address of record on November 30, If you or a former employee doesn t receive a notice by December 7, 2018, please call or Donna at or Donna.Staryarsky@ascensus.com. Please leave your name, phone number, and current address and a good time to reach you if you get the voice mail. Official notification will be mailed during the month of November with a 90 day deadline to reply Page 5

4 Advent is right around the corner. There are some lovely Advent/Christmas themed books available on the parish bookshelf behind the altar. Come pick one out for some spiritual reading during this holy season. HOLY NAME EVENTS Holy Name Children s Choir Is singing this weekend at the 10:30 Mass. New members are always welcomed. Watch the bulletin for choir practice dates. Tickets will be sold at Masses this weekend; December 1 & 2; and December 8 & 9. This year we will also be taking names. You can reserve a table of 8 when 8 tickets are purchased together. (As always, no tickets will be sold at the door to give the caterer an accurate count the Monday before.) 5 OTHER EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES St. Michael's Academy will be holding an information session on Tuesday, November 27th at 5 p.m. for PreK and Kindergarten students and their families who are interested in enrolling for the academic year. Parents will learn about the Academy while children do a craft, hear a story and receive a snack. Join us! Sexual Revolution - 50 Years since Humane Vitae. Screening of this important eye-opening movie will be held at Assumption College Tsotsis Family Academic Center Wednesday, November 28th & Thursday, November 29 th, both at 7 PM. All are welcome. Our Lady of Częstochowa Church, 84 K Street, Turners Falls, Mass. will hold its annual St. Nicholas Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Come for Christmas crafts and gifts, religious goods, bake sale, Polish food sale, pierogi, Polish items, tag sale, giant raffles, and more!
