2 The sanctuary party gathers at the Advent Wreath The Lord has made known His Victory. God s righteousness is shown to the nations. In righteousness shall God judge the world. And all the peoples in peace and equity. The wreath is sprinkled with water as the Presider says: Holy and Eternal One, giver of life and light, bless we pray you this ring of evergreen and circle of candles, that as our way is illumined in this season by the growing radiance of Christ, so also we may be firmly grounded in your constant love; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The first candle is lit during this antiphon: O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all. Salutation and Collect for Advent 1 Eternal God, your Word of wisdom goes forth and does not return empty: Grant us such knowledge of and love of you that we may perceive your presence in all creation and every creature; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, now and for ever. Amen. LITURGY OF THE WORD First Reading: Ruth 3:1-5;4:13-17 Naomi her mother-in-law said to Ruth, My daughter, I need to seek some security for you, so that it may be well with you. Now here is our kinsman Boaz, with whose young women you have been working. See, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. Now wash and anoint yourself, and put on your best clothes and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. When he lies down, observe the place where he lies; then, go and uncover his feet and lie down; and he will tell you what to do. She said to her, All that you tell me I will do. So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When they came together, the Lord made her conceive, and she bore a son. Then the women said to Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, who has not

3 left you this day without next-of-kin; and may his name be renowned in Israel! He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has borne him. Then Naomi took the child and laid him in her bosom, and became his nurse. The women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, A son has been born to Naomi. Gradual Psalm Psalm 127 BCP, 782 Second Reading: Hebrews 9:24-28 Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself again and again, as the high priest enters the Holy Place year after year with blood that is not his own; for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to remove sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once, and after that the judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. Lector: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The Holy Gospel: Mark 12:38-44 The Holy Gospel according to Mark Glory to you, Lord Christ. As Jesus taught, he said, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! They devour widows houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.

4 He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. Almighty and everliving God, we most heartily thank thee for that thou dost feed us, in these holy mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and dost assure us thereby of thy favor and goodness towards us; and that we are very members incorporate in the mystical body of thy Son, the blessed company of all faithful people; and are also heirs, through hope, of thy everlasting kingdom. And we humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. ROMEO LUNCHEON Wednesday, November 21 - CANCELLED Our luncheon for November has been cancelled due to the Thanksgiving holiday. SHOP TIL YOU DROP & DINING FOR RAIHN Tuesday, November 27, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Shop at One World Goods in the Pittsford Plaza beginning at 6:00 pm and proceeds will benefit RAIHN. Dining will be at Benucci s Italian Ristorante, also in the Pittsford Plaza. Mention that you are dining for RAIHN when you arrive and Benucci s will donate 20% of your check. Reservations are suggested: If you have any questions, please call RAIHN at FOOD SHELF Happy Autumn Everyone - This past September, the Perinton Food Shelf fed 45 families for a total of 150 individuals with a weeks worth of groceries. So you can imagine that we really need help from the community to keep our shelves filled. Our current needs are: tuna, chili, beef stew, sloppy joe/manwich, hash, canned pasta, soup, salad dressings, gravy, cereal, oatmeal, tea, pudding cups, cookies, crackers, Jello boxes, pudding boxes, cake mixes, frosting, brownies, rice, rice mixes, strawberry jelly, bath soap, dish soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant. Thank you so much for your support. Eileen Schopp SCHEDULING CHURCH ACTIVITIES Please, everyone who schedules an activity at church, inform our secretary, Marie at , so she can put it on the church calendar outside the office. Our Sexton, Charlie, depends on this to know when and what area he needs to focus on and to restore back to normal after. Thank you. A MEAL & MORE We have been asked to provide 10 winter hats, 15 winter scarves and 15 pairs of men s socks for Christmas bags for the guests that come to the A Meal and More Program. They can be placed in the box in the hallway under the coat racks. The deadline for donations will be December 2. Thank you!
