Confirmation parents will meet on Sunday, November 4 th and 11 th at 10:15 am. As a friendly reminder, the purpose of religious education is to help guide your child in the beliefs of the church. The main teacher of religious education is you, the parents. Keep Christ in Christmas. The Knights of Columbus will be selling Christmas cards after all masses beginning the weekend of November 11 th. Come early for the best selections. Cards are in English and Spanish.

3 ANNOUNCEMENTS There will be a Christmas Bazaar on November 17th and 18th in the Church Hall. We are asking for homemade Christmas decorations to sell, as well as slightly used Christmas items and baked goods to sell. All proceeds will go to the building fund. For more information, call Donna Custis at All are welcome to the Posada that will be celebrated in the Parish Hall at 7 PM during the first four weekends of December to commemorate Mary and Joseph s difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a warm place to stay the night. Please stop by the office should you wish to host a Posada. The dates are: Sunday, December 2nd Sunday, December 9th Saturday, December 15th Important Reminder... Please maintain the cleanliness and sacredness of our church! Food and gum are not allowed in church. Before you enter the church, please dispose of all gum and food in the garbage can at the front door. A message from Father Roger to our visitors: To my beloved visitors. As you can see, we have built our new church, however, expenses continue. We are happy to invite you to join us in completing the House of God. 5 Being Citizens Faithful to the Lord October 2018 Election Day is November 6. To be the faithful citizens our Lord calls us to be, we must form our consciences through prayer, attentiveness to the Church s teachings, and an understanding of issues and of candidates positions. As we exercise our ministry of teaching, we wish to offer principles and observations that we believe will be of value to the faithful of our dioceses as we exercise the right to vote in elections this year. Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship is a statement of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops ( which describes how we make good moral choices as we respond to our baptismal call to promote the common good in our nation s political life. We especially encourage you to read paragraphs of this statement because they specifically address voting decisions. There are many issues that require our attention for example, the defense and protection of all life at every stage, and issues impacting the poor, immigrants, the family, religious liberty, and the environment. Love of God and neighbor means being attentive to all issues that affect the common good. Some matters have a special claim on our consciences and our actions (Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, Para. 37). We are referring here to policies promoting acts that are intrinsically evil because they are always incompatible with love of God and neighbor. They must always be rejected and opposed and must never be supported or condoned. A prime example is the intentional taking of innocent human life, as in abortion and euthanasia (Para. 22). Our Virginia Catholic Conference s website ( also contains information on this year s U.S. Senate candidates positions on a wide range of issues. This site is a resource for voter education as well as for advocacy throughout the year. We especially encourage you to join the Conference s network via the site s Join the Network feature.
