2 Dear St. Francis Xavier Parishioners and Friends, What shall I return to the Lord for all He has done for me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the name of the Lord. (Psalm 116) Once again, I begin with thanksgiving, there is so much to be grateful for this is the appropriate response to all that God gives. Because of our community, we can remember this past year with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence. Gratitude is the foundation on which everything else can build, and we all need to return there again and again. Once again, I plan to address the state of the parish, both our successes and our challenges. I assure you that we have a very bright future; with dozens of children in our faith formation programs, 32 in first communion and 17 in confirmation classes, a devoted RCIA team and candidates and, of course, each of you singing/praying at Mass with growing fervor with each passing week. Our future is radiant with these lives. On the weekend of November 17-18, I will once again publish my homily in the bulletin and take time during Mass to update you on the status of the parish. The following evening, we will address questions that arise, and for those who wish, delve deeper into the weekend s presentation. During this glass pocket meeting, I will have more comprehensive financial information than is presented in the bulletin, and respond to questions and hopes for our future. The evening session will take place on November 19 th at 7pm in the Loyola Center. I have invited members of our finance committee and pastoral council to join us. The focus will be to answer questions as we look forward to our common future. We thank God for the significant growth that continues in our parish and the tireless work of generous volunteers completing toilsome projects without budgetary overrun - words cannot express my appreciation for your devoted service. The highest compliment you can give a gift-giver is to thoroughly enjoy the gift. We owe it to our Creator to appreciate all that we have been given. Life is not meant to be a test, but a blessing, a gift not earned by us, but a gratuitous gift of God s self-offering love. Eucharist is a Greek word that means thankfulness. The Church s central act of worship is an expression of thankfulness: What shall I return to the Lord for all He has done for me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the name of the Lord, O Lord, I am your servant, I will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and call on the name of the Lord (Psalm 116) Please be sure and join us on the weekend of November 17-18, 2018, and if possible at our Monday evening gathering. Know that you, and your intentions are always in my morning prayer, and I remain deeply grateful for how you ignite our community with joy and thanksgiving - these are the evidence of God s presence when we gather. 4 Many thanks to Mary Ann Bigelow for her day of prayer for those experiencing grief in their lives. Especially during this month of remembrance, it was a warm and safe space to spend an afternoon in prayer and reflection. Last Sunday, Gallatin Refugee Connections brought a u-haul full of Welcome Kits containing linens, toiletries, kitchen goods, and other essentials that will go directly to incoming families, easing their path into life in Missoula. The International Rescue Committee will distribute these key items to families they resettle in our community. Join us for mass at 9:00 am Thanksgiving Day! Save the Date: #igivecatholic is coming November 27th! The nationwide movement to donate to charities on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is fast approaching. Last year, the first year that St. Francis Xavier participated, we raised enough money to completely restore all of the doors of the church. This year we hope to raise $15,000 of the $30,000 needed to restore and repaint the belfry of the steeple as well as the cupola windows and crosses upon the roof. The Mary Martha Ministry crafts beautiful prayer shawls that are blessed then distributed to parishioners who are suffering. All those able to knit or crochet or who want to learn are welcome. You must put something in before you can take anything out. There is no love in marriage - love is in people! And people put love in marriage! There is no romance in marriage - you have to infuse it into your marriage! A couple must learn the art and form the habit of giving, loving, serving, praising - keeping the box full. If you take out more that you put in, the box will be empty.
